Music randomly skips, moves to next track, or stops playing all together

Hi all,

First post on the forum. I'm using my B2 to play over Sonos (a pair of Play:1s), and a couple of weeks ago, I started having trouble with music skipping (really, stopping at random spots in songs), after which it may skip to the next track (I'm usually playing through a album), or just stop playing altogether.

I've tried:
- Restarting
- Software update
- Disk scan/repair

I have not tried:
- Playing through wired speakers (I don't have any)
- Updating Sonos (I still use S1 on my phone, not sure if that matters, since the problem seems to be with the Brennan, not the Sonos system)

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I would like to know if the B2 itself is OK - have you any headphones that you can plug into the line out socket to listen with (you may need to turn the volume up quite a bit). 
If it is skipping like you say here too we go "into" the B2 to solve the issue, if the headphones are OK then it is a network problem.

Also could you play some test music (not off the B2) just using the Sonos App to eliminate a problem here.

We would also need to know what software version you are running
Press the "cog" on the Web UI and send us a screen capture of the window which opens..... And could you use the B2 menu system to tell us what Wifi Strength the B2 is seing.

Also it may help you to understand that when the B2 is being used to drive the Sonos, it is NOT sending music to the Sonos speakers itself. What it does is send a bunch of music (some or al of what you requested) to the Sonos "system" (the Sonos "System" can buffer stuff) and it is the Sonos "system" that plays the music.
It is NOT like sending music directly to wired speakers!

Thanks, Fred. After some thorough troubleshooting, I think I have landed on what the problem was. The Brennan was connected to the wired access point I have in my living room (which is what I wanted), but both Sonos speakers were connected--inexplicably--to the main router at the other end of the house (which has a different SSID), with poor signal strength. Given what a pain it is to change wireless networks on the Sonos (wired connection required), I don't really understand why/how this happened. But I've forced the Sonos to forget the other SSID to prevent this from happening again. I'll reply back again if the problem recurs after these changes are in place.

Hi evan,

Yes, the B2 MUST be connected to the same network (SSID) as the Sonos speakers for the Brennan/Sonos system to work. The Brennan is passive as regards connecting to your home WiFi - it asks what you connect it to for an IP address - it is the job of your home WiFi system to supply this IP number and the Brennan just accepts whatever it is given.

Home WiFi/Ethernet addresses look like this  IP=AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD generically - where each A,B,C and D represent a number in the range 0-9.
In a usual setup the first two are IP=192.168.CCC.DDD and for the Brennan/Sonos system to work the third number (say IP=192.160.1.DDD) must be the same, while the last numbers (DDD) MUST be different for the Brennan and each Sonos speaker.

From what you say you have some sort of mesh network/router system in your house -  these are a bit of a black art to configure. I must warn you that the devices you want to use to connect to the Brennan's Web User Interface MUST also be on the same AAA.BBB.CCC part of your system, or they will not be able to see the Brennan.
