After several years of wonderful Brennan B2 experiences, I still haven't mastered the random function, which I highly desire. May I suggest some re-definition:
1. Random tracks within entire disc
2. Random tracks within playlist
3. Random tracks within artist
4. Random tracks within album
Anyone agree? Or any further suggestions?
Thanks
Roger

How are 1 and 4 not the same?

I think we already have #2. Random within playlist.  No?

"#1. Random within entire disc"  Perhaps he means disc = disk = HDD (or SSD).  If so, then I think we already have that too.

Yes we do and if you select an "artist" an put that in a playlist, then you get random within artist (I think - seems to do this for me).

I don't do much other than hit random the entire collection so correct if my other procedures are incorrect. I am doing this from the original web interface. I did quickly try the V3 version and received similar results. Yes I cheated by selecting 'next song' to see if it worked. I did not list to entire tracks.
So to sort of complete this:
  • Random across entire collection minus the blacklist playlist.
  1. Select any song (press play next to sone)
  2. Press random play
  • Random tracks within a playlist
  1. Select playlist from bottom left column
  2. Press the play button next to any album in the playlist (they "Playlist" will appear in the Now Playing window)
  3. Press random play
  • Random tracks within artist
  1. Select the artist list in the middle window
  2. Create a playlist for the artist
  3. Follow instructions above to play random playlist.
  • Random tracks within album
I could not get this to work using the web interface, random went to other albums. Would have to do same approach as within an artist.

It might be nice to add the last two options as straight forward actions. If anyone uses them they probably don't want to manage a playlist and keep it current if things change.

Am I missing some instruction?

Ah well this, or something similar, is what I have been craving ever since I bought my B2, four years or so, ago.

Ray has defined the requirements perfectly and, as he says, we do already have the first two, i.e., random for the entire collection and random within a playlist.
What is missing is random by artist and random by CD (or whatever means you have used to download your music).

We are told these features are on the wishlist, and yes, there's a workaround (there's always a workaround), but really, who wants to keep creating playlist after playlist, or adding and removing artists or albums to and from a playlist?

I've mentioned before that, obviously, there is an algorithm of some kind that works for random as it is now and how hard would it be to make that work for the missing features described?

Then we could move on to more esoteric options such as play/random by year of release, artists/albums/songs, starting with a certain letter, recently added etc. You know, like every other music-playing device.

But, one step at a time.

Happy Easter,
Les

Hi Ray,

Noted.

To play the entire collection, randomised - make sure the B2 is paused and then press NEXT on the front panel.
