I have a Brennan JB7. 88Gb used and 216 Gb free.
I have a 128Gb memory stick and want to transfer the music from the JB7 to the memory stick so a can play it in my car. Is this possible and how can I get it all on on one download instead of one album at a time?

Hi David,

I have just managed to buy a JB7 off eBay tonight, so I'll have a look at what options might be available for music transfers from the JB7.  I've already got B2s and BB1s so I have done a good deal of transfers between different devices and these later Brennans.  So, once I have a bit of time when I receive the JB7, I'll have a run through the possibilities.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi David,

You can do a 'backup' which will copy the contents (all music) of the JB7 to the USB stick BUT the stick needs to have sufficient memory to take the backup in one go.

You can check the 'disk stats' on the JB7 to see how much memory space has been used and hence how big the USB stick needs to be.

The backup command is in the 'USB menu' and disk stats is in the 'Main menu'.

Thank yo for your assistance. I'll give it a go. Initially the JB7 wouldn't recognise the mem stick but I understand it had to be formatted, which I have done, to the FAT system. Hopefully that is correct.

Hi David,

Once you get the JB7 to recognise the USB stick, the music content will, I think, take somwhere in the region of 72 hours to complete, so some patience will be required!  The JB7 USB port is USB1 which is very slow by today's standards.

Regards,
Peter.

Ok thanks for that heads up. 88Gb used going to a 128Gb mem stick should be OK. I normally back up to an external hard drive I bought from Brennan. My new car doesn't have a CD player (technology moving faster than I can keep up) hence the reason for the mem stick. I hope it will play on my new car. Little unsure how to select a track or album in the car. BTW are the CD's still available to buy or download which provide information on the track titles on the albums I have some of which only say track1, track2 etc as they play?

Hi David,

The 'sqdb' database CDs are still showing as available in the Brennan store, or you can download the file and burn the CD yourself.

Peter.

OK thanks will look for it.
I thought I had formatted my usb stick but the JB7 still doesn't recognise it for some reason.
Found the reason. Windows cannot format a usb device larger than 32Gb to FAT32. So am I stuck with having to load album by album on to a number of 32Gb usb sticks? Above 32Gb all you get is exFAT or NTFS.

Have looked but cannot find where I can download the sqdb database. Have you a link I use?

David,
There are free downloadable programs that will format a disk to FAT32.  Receintly, I recall reading here that Easeus is such a program.  If you search the forum for it, you will probably find a link.

Hi David,

The link below should take you to the 'sqdb' database file.

Thanks for the link and advice re FAT32.
I've downloaded the sqdb file onto laptop. I notice it is zipped. Do I need to unzip before burning to a CD? Or does the JB7 take care of that once I have it on cd and load it onto the JB7?
I'll check out the FAT32 software asap.
Regards
David

Hi David,

You will need to unzip the 'sqdb' file on a PC and burn it to a CD.  Then load the CD into the JB7. (CD Functions --> Update CDDB)

Below is a link to the 'Shop' page where there is a short paragraph 'Album database on CDROM' almost at the bottom of the page.

Regards,
Peter.
