I have just purchased a Miccus Home RTX 2.0 Bluetooth extender and I would like to connect it to my B2 to supply Bluetiooth headphones. I'd like to explore the possible ways to hook it up. This device can be used with as either Bluetooth out or Bluetooth in. I have no interest in Bluetooth in for the foreseeable future so all my questions and comments relate to its use as Bluetooth out.

1. The Miccus has a 3.5mm input connector so I can run a 3.5mm male-to-male cable from the SPDIF Out jack on the B2 to the 3.5mm port on the Miccus. However, the Miccus also has a TOSlink In port and comes with a double-ended TOSlink optical cable. Since the B2 supports TOSlink via the SPDIF port this seems to be the preferred method. Comments? Negatives?

2. The Miccus requires a power source. It comes with a USB-A to Micro USB-C cable and a wall adapter (5V/500mA) so I can just plug it into a power strip, but what about using one of the B2 USB ports? Presumably the dongle in USB-C will no longer be required so can I plug the USB cable into it? If I can't use this port should the dongle be removed or does it matter? What about USB-B: is it powered or inert and if powered would it be usable in this application?

3. What have I missed? Are there considerations I haven't addressed? Has anyone tried this and succeeded or failed? Above all I don't want to risk damage to my B2 or phones.

This is all outside my level of expertise so I will be grateful for any advice you can provide.

1. Analog Line Output or Toslink digital output.  Either should be fine.  Totally your choice as to what sounds better, is more convenient, etc.

2. Your B2 must be quite old if it has a USB-B port.  Although I think there was a period of time when it was not connected to anything.  Regardless, there is probably a question as to whether any of the B2's USB ports would be able to supply enough current to power the Bluetooth extender.  You'd have to try it to see how it does.  I think USB-A has more power capability.

3.  I've read numerous times that people have had success with the type of arrangement you describe.  Haven't done it myself.

Hi Granite,

The optical out from the B2 is a fixed level - not affected by the B2's volume control, whereas the Line Out is variable.

The optical out uses a 'mini TOS Link' connection so you will either have to buy a cable with mini TOS one end and standard TOS the other or an adapter like this -
Goobay Toslink / 3.5mm Mini Plug Audio Adapter

Line Out uses a stereo 3.5mm jack.

Hi Granite,

And I also meant to add - try USB A to power the Bluetooth adapter and remove the Bluetooth dongle (marked CSR4.0).

USB B is used by the internal hard drive and shouldn't be connected to anything externally.
