B2 freezing

My B2 froze during playback. I tried to go onto the next track which had worked once before when it froze. The next track would not play. Upon pressing back, the track started again, sticking in exactly the same place. I did this a couple of times, with the same result.

I then tried scan disc but nothing happening as the front panel indicated that the hard drive was empty. I pressed the info button on the remote with the same result, no albums, artist or tracks. This was strange as the UI was open and showed that the B2 and UI were linked with albums, etc being listed so I knew that the hard drive hadn't been wiped. I ran web upgrade and everything returned. I then ran scan disc and a complete scan was carried out.
I had been planning to do a back up so I ran one now. Everything was working well and then it froze again and the back up stopped. The clock on the display panel has also frozen.

I am no longer to open up the UI.

Any suggestions?

It could be that the track that stopped playing in the same spot is corrupt.  When the B2 encountered it the second time, it may have switched its music source to the SD card.  Does your front panel say "Source: SD card" or "Source:  HDD" or something similar (I forget the exact wording).

From what I remember the track that had frozen has played OK in the past.

The whole unit had frozen. The clock had stopped and there was no response from any of the buttons or main control knob. As the unit had been frozen for over an hour, I switched the unit off and left it for a few minutes. When I switched it back on again, the front panel was on and the UI was connected again. I have now tried to do another back up and so far it seems to be going OK.

Maybe it overheated.  Do you have plenty of space around the unit for it to breathe?  Definitely don't set anything on top of it.

Thanks for your comments Daniel.

Everything seems to have been resolved and a successful back up has been completed. The track which froze on playback now plays all the way through. The unit is on a shelf with nothing near it or on it so I think it is unlikely to have overheated and it hadn't been on for very long, so it remains a mystery.
One thing to learn from it, is to regularly back up your B2.
