I’d be grateful if someone could help. A while ago having read about it here I downloaded the mobile VLC app to my IPad. It worked and I was pleased that as well as listening to the B2 direct and via Sonos speakers I could take music into yet another room via a portable Bluetooth speaker.
I tried this week and I can’t recall how I did it. This window pops up. What should be entered? If I leave it long enough a page flashes up with an icon for a folder named Music but tapping it just brings up the authentication window and whirring circle.

Thanks, Jeff. I've done that (not as on my screenshot but on separate lines) and I’ve just tried again as I wasn’t sure if I’d used a capital B but same result. Circle whirls and pressing login brings the window up again with password empty.

Yes, I realised that. I’ve just downloaded the Android app and it works fine. So I’m at a loss as to why the IPad version isn’t doing now. Thanks anyway. I’ll keep trying now I'm sure what to do.

First are you 100% certain NAS is running on the B2 ? If not go into the B2 menu system and check.
Next Open the VLC app on your phone .
1. Now on the VLC app make sure that you tap the casting icon on the top  bar  .Then you can proceed with the selection of the files you want to cast to your smart device
2. tap the network icon on the bottom bar of the VLC app
3.this displays  "file servers" so  navigate to "BRENNANB2"
4. Enter "root" and "brennan"
5. on the top right of the VLC app click "connect"
6. The b2 Music Folder will now be displayed
7. Navigate to the file of the music you wish to cast and the track will play

Thanks, Graham. Yes, NAS is on and the app works on my Android phone but on my iPad, where it did work a few weeks ago, it doesn’t now. I think I’ve done everything I should have.  It isn’t a huge problem, of course as it was just on add-on to music round the house and I can use my phone VLC app with the portable speaker. Who knows?  Next week it might work on  the iPad..

Hi Rik,

I'm not that familiar with VLC and your iPad set up, but about a year ago I did help someone else who was having a similar problem with an iPad connection.  It turned out that the problem was being caused by the security set up in the iPad . I eventually found that it was caused by the latest Apple IOS update (at that time) which had 'improved' the security of the iPad.

The iPad browser/security was blocking the data steam, flagging it as 'untrusted'; thus the little 'spinning wheel' just sat there waiting ad infinitum.

Might be worth poking around this area on the iPad!

Regards,
Peter.

Hi Rik,

Try powering the iPad off and on again.

Thanks, Paul, just tried that but no joy.
Always good to be reminded though of something which often solves a problem. I got up early to watch the Test match this morning and found the Sky box unresponsive.  Panic set in until I thought to unplug.

try deleteing the VLC app from the iPad. Power off the iPad. Go to settings and clear all temporary data . restart the iPad again and rinstall the VLC app

Sorry, Graham. Just tried that and no luck.
Still I did some housekeeping on the iPad which is all to the good. I’m quite happy to give up on this.  Thanks again.

Yes, I have given up on IOS but I’ve downloaded the VLC app for Kindle Fire and so I’ve just listened upstairs with headphones - the sound’s not at all bad - and listened in the bath yesterday via my Android phone and portable Bose Bluetooth speaker. With Sonos speakers too Brennan music is everywhere. Thank you.

I have just installed VLC on my Android phone as well, I think this will suit me better than Samba player, as you can cast to Chromecast audio as well!

VLC worked on my Android phone and tablet the other week when I first installed them. They don’t now. The app finds Sonos but not the Brennan. I fill in details as before and a message flashes up on the bottom so quickly I can’t read it but nothing happens.

Hi Rik, I just tried my VLC connection to the B2, haven't used it in a while but it still works ok.

The message at the bottom is "parsing media", this took a while so if yours flashes really quickly is suspect that it's not finding the music of the B2.

There was an update to VLC app  a little while ago, might be worth checking yours is up to date

It occurred to me belatedly this morning to check that NAS was still enabled. It wasn’t. I had a new card the other week with B2b software  and obviously that was why. I enabled and all is well and I can listen via phone and portable Bluetooth in the bath etc.
Thanks for help and apologies for not thinking of the reason myself.

At least it was easy to resolve, I guess the learning from this is that if an sd card is replaced there will be some setting that are lost.

Thanks, Mike. I expect everyone would have realised but I’ve learned anyway.😀
