Hi,
I bought a flat ethernet cable but it's too big to go through the hole!
Does anyone have a recommendation for a cable that fits?
Cheers,
Vern.

Hi Vern,

You described your ethernet cable as 'flat'.  On the back of the B2 there just beside the hole for an ethernet cable, there is a slot.  This slot is provided for flat ethernet cables.  Will you cable fit through that slot?

I have attached a picture showing the two types marked on the rear of the B2.

Regards,
Peter.

In the picture that Peter posted, it's difficult to see the two holes provided for an ethernet cable.  His picture is the same one that is shown on this page, second picture from the top:  Techy Stuff
The fourth picture from the top shows how to route the ethernet cable out of the back of the unit.

Thanks all.
To clarify, I have tried to use the 'slot' rather than the 'round' hole, but my flat cable is too big.
Given that the cable has a 'thin' side and a 'thick' side, the 'thin' side fits in the slot ok, but the 'thick' side is too thick to get the rear panel back in place.
Ie The cable sticks up too high by approx 1mm.
So apparently not all flat ethernet cables are of the same dimensions.
Hence my query as to what make others have purchased.
Cheers,
Vern.

HMM!!

You have a MALE/FEMALE cable shown in your photo. This is normally referred to as a Ethernet EXTENSION Cable!

1) Inside the B2 is a FEMALE Ethernet socket and this expecting a MALE ended connection plug.
2) If you are planning to plug the other end of your Ethernet cable into your Router, then Router too is expecting to be presented with a MALE plug (their sockets are usually all FEMALE)

Thus (unless you are indeed extending the length of an ethernet cable you already have, you would need a MALE/MALE cable for the Job. eg

Hi Vern,

I fitted this male-female Ethernet cable which has a round cable - it allows me to easily disconnect the Ethernet for testing WiFi etc.

I think I bought it from Pi Hut.

Hi Fred,
Yes, I understand that. Here's my rationale.
The ethernet port on the B2 is, shall we say, 'awkward' to access.
In the event of needing to move the B2 I wanted to be able to remove the cable without having to remove the back of the unit.
Hence the male/female converter.
Thanks anyway,
Vern.

Hi Paul,
Thanks, exactly what I was looking for (well, near enough;+)).
Found it on Pi Hut and ordered.
Cheers,
Vern.

The Pi Hut cable arrived yesterday (isn't internet shopping amazing?) installed and works.
Thanks all,
Vern.
