Hi Trevor,
Paul advises that the Brennan's service agent is - "AudioTech - now handle all JB7 repairs on our behalf. Please contact them on - audiotechcontact @ gmail . com - no spaces".
Looking at your situation, if the backup (using 'Backup music' from your first JB7 unit is good, then it should have restored (using 'Restore music') onto your second JB7. However there is a clue here that the restore of 9788 tracks ran in 30 minutes. There is something wrong there; either the 'Backup music' did not work correctly or the 'Restore music' did not work.
I need to state first that I don't yet have a JB7 to verify the following figures. I have just purchased one from eBay, with delivery by the end of this week so I will get a chance to check the data transfer rates then. The figures that I do have are from feedback from two or three JB7 owners whom I have advised in the past.
I've run an estimate and have come up with some figures to work with.
For the purposes of these calculations, I'm assuming that you have 9788 tracks compressed at 192Kb/s. If this assumption is incorrect, just post here the actual compression rate that you are using (or 'None' if stored as 'wav' files) and I can do a quick recalculation.
That gives 'JB7 Total disk used' of about 70GB
The JB7 'Backup music' runs at about 1.2GB/hr (I estimate) so should run for 60 hours
I think that the 'Restore music' should run at about the same rate (I estimate) as the Backup so the restore should take 60 hours.
You have plugged the backup HDD into a PC or Mac to check the files. As long as the music tracks are all there and are in the prescribed format and the volume of the backup is around 70GB then the restore should work, but it will take around 60 hours to complete. This is because the USB port only runs at USB1.1 @ 12Mbits/sec. Compare this to a B2 which is USB2 rated at 480Mbits/sec. So the JB7 USB port is very slow by today's standards.
Then it a case of working out where the failure is.
Let us know how you get on.
Regards,
Peter.
