I have been gradually uploading CD's to BB1 via external drive fro weeks, but yesterday my WI suddenly went weird and replaced the symbols at the top with squares and it now will not load at all, even when I type in the URL. I have updated the web software and yes all other sites are working ok on my browser. Is there a general problem with the WI or is it just me?

Hi Greg,

When this happens (squares instead of symbols, et.), it usually means that the WebUI has lost the connection to the Brennan.  So I think that your BB1 might have disconnected from your WiFi for some reason.  This has happened to me a few times over the years.

If you power the BB1 down and back up and then check that your BB1 has an IP address then you should be up and running again.  If not, post back here for more advice.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi Peter
Thanks for replying so quickly. Alas, I had done that already and the problem persists - my BB1 is still showing the same IP as before, but that isn't loading on my web browser.
Any other ideas?
Greg

Hi Greg,

Is the BB1 doing all of the functions from the knob control?  Is it behaving normally other than not responding via the WebUI?

Given that the BB1 is showing an IP address then the router is responding to the BB1's request for a connection.  A couple of suggestions would be to:

1.  'Main Menu' --> 'Settings & Tools' --> 'Setup Wifi' --> 'Pick Network' , then check the displayed passphrase and press 'Next'.  See if this restablishes the network connection.
2.  'Main Menu' --> 'Settings & Tools' --> 'Maintenance' --> 'Advanced' --> 'Reset Wifi - and reboot'.   See what happens after this is done.

Let us know if this helps.

Regards,
Peter.

Thanks Peter
Your 2nd suggestion worked, it looks like if had lost the network. However, my web broswer will not recognise this I.P. address (it is the same as before) and I have tried this via a different laptop and browser. No success - what next?!

Hi Greg,

What is the IP address that is being displayed on the BB1?

If it is by any chance '10.0.0.1' then the thing to do here is to go into 'Main Menu' --> 'Settings & Tools' --> 'Hotspot On'  and click on this.  It should turn to 'Hotspot Off'

Then see if an IP address of something like '192.168.1.50' appears.

Regards,
Peter.

While I am not a BB1 owner/user, if I may make a suggestion - please do a hard reboot on your house WiFi router (switch it off at the mains - wait 30 seconds - switch it on again and wait for it to settle) and see if that sort the problem out
(sometimes the problem is in the plumbing  not the end devices!).

Success!
Thanks to all for suggestions - turns out it wasnt a Ip address/hotspot issue.. it was that old turn it off and on again trick - thanks Fred W....I had re-booted everything else earlier, but not the damn router!

I had exactly the same problem yesterday:  having uploaded a couple of thousand songs to the Brennan via USB,  everything showed perfectly on the Brennan display (I could search, play and do everything from the Brennan machine itself) but could not get the WI to open.

Eventually, after doing all the things that had been suggested to Greg several times, it just suddenly opened up - have no idea why or how!

This morning the same issue again - Brennan display is all fine but WI will not open - but, even more confusingly, the Brennan display now shows a different IP address from yesterday!  Yesterday the final 3 digits were 110 but today they are 105.  Neither combination opens the WI.

Have done Peter's 2 suggestions above - no joy.

Anybody have any further good ideas?

I forgot to mention that all this has come to pass since upgrading the router.

The Sonos system is totally screwed as well!!

OK,

When you power up a computer, it looks for your Router (the SSID you said to use) and a negotiation goes on between your router and your computer (in this case your B2 or BB1) for an assignment of an IP address for your computer (it is the router which manages this!).
Thus if you power off your BB1 or B2, the next time it starts up it may be given a different IP no from last time. This is what is happening to you.

This matters because when you use your Web UI to access your BB1 or B2 it looks for it on the IP no that it last used. This is why your Web UI is not working (it cannot connect to your BB! or B2).

There are 3 ways to address this

1) set up your router to assign a FIXED IP no to your BB1 or B2 (this is done from within the software interface of your router) - this is what I do at my house,
2) use the Brennan App for iPhone and Android - this first search for the BB1 or B2 on your network then connects to it.
3) type the BB1 or B2"'s CURRENT IP no into your browser search bar so that you browser knows where to find the unit.

Hope this helps

My explanation above will equally apply to your Sonos system if you have changed your router.  You will need to re-install your Sonos system.

Which make of router do you use?

Thank you Fred.

It has gone from bad to worse now...the WiFi network has dropped from the B2 and despite trying to "re-find" it, entering the password again etc I can get no connection to the WiFi network.

I am in Amsterdam and it's a Ziggo router.  Am guessing it must be time to try a router reboot but I need to wait for wife to finish her endless business conference calls!

Hi Carj....

Yes it does look as though your Ziggo will need a reboot. I had a look for Ziggos but It was all in Dutch :) - to fix your problems you will need to connect your BB1 or B2 (after the reboot) and then go to your Ziggo app or from your browser type in the
IP No. for your Router (this should be on a label on you router (or it may be a web address)). This will take you ta a web page (actually coming form your Ziggo Router) where you will need to log in as "admin" + a password which should also be on the label on your router.
From here there should be some "advanced" menu option from which you can detect the IP No currently assigned to your BB1 or B2 and from there assign that IP number to be permanently "fixed" to that device.
On mine it looks like this.

I have now successfully resolved the Sonos issue which now works from both the iMac and my mobile.  I did this with the network & TP Link installer, where we "separated" the router and TP Link Mesh networks.

Unfortunately,  the Brennan still stubbornly refuses to find my WiFi network and does not allow me to operate correctly (without the network, it will only play those tracks already stored in the Brennan.)

I have tried both of Peter's suggestions above without any success.  Namely:

Does anybody have any other suggestions of what to do...?

Many thanks

Hi Carj,

When you run 'Setup WiFi' do you see your network SSID listed? Are you entering the password for the main router or for the TP Link? How far does the process get before it fails?
