Thanks Paul, Mark and others for help in transferring Ipod library to an ext HD in preparation for uploading to the B2.  It seems to have worked just fine.

How can I best transfer the Ipod library to the B2 without using a FAT32 stick?  I have both Bluetooth and USB, and use the web interface

Thanks
Todd

The other two ways, besides USB, to transfer to the B2 are these:
1) Upload via the WebUI;
2) Using NAS mode, copy directly from your computer to the B2, being sure to run the Scan Disk command after every transfer session.

Both of those are discussed on the Brennan website, and more help can be had here if you have any more questions.

Hi,
How have you organized your music on the external drive. For the B2 to see it it must be in a  folder structure
ARTIST\ALBUM\TRACKS

Hi talefk...,

You should be able to plug the HD into USB C (or A) - as long as it has been FAT32 formatted - on the B2 (power off before connecting it) and then use Import USB C (or A) from the USB menu - using the front control on the B2.

The file on the non FAT HD is Itunes format...I wanted to avoid buying a USB stick just for transferring, so I inquired about the WUI option.

I am not an Apple user but it is my understanding that only Apple can read iTunes format.
You will need to get the music out of that format into a simple Windows/Mac file format /directory structure as described above in this thread (ARTIST\ALBUM\TRACKS).

Hi,

just to clarify:

1. You have your external drive plugged into your computer ?
2. You are using the Web Ui to do a bulk upload ?
3. What format are the music files on the external drive, they  need to be  WAV, FLAC, MP3 or M4A/ALAC . You will have problems if they digital rights protection (DRM) and will have to run a conversion if they have before uploading

If the files are organized correctly and are of a correct format then you can plug the drive straight into the B2 (assumes the drive is formatted as FAT32 and it is a USB hard drive)

If that is the case then you can import them

OK...I partitioned my ext usb drive and it now has a partition containing Itunes file.

The B2 recognizes the drive attached to the USB c: port.  I can find Itunes1 on the file directory.  What exactly do I do next?  Again, nothing seems to be transferring.  The Itunes file works fine on my PC Itunes program

Help!

Thanks
Todd

In addition, the new partition IS FAT32

Where would I look to find uploaded music if it actually uploaded?

Todd,

Can you confirm how you are trying to upload to  the B2  as per my last post ?

Thanks

John

Yes..the Itunes folder is on a FAT32 partition of an ext USB HD; the drive is connected to the B2 USB C port by usb cable.I was trying to use the WebUI to do the transfer

I am not sure how the B2 will  handle a partitioned USB drive. I am not saying it won't work, but I doubt it will.
Also you seem not to be addressing the directory (folder) structure we have been telling you the B2 needs to process the contents of the
drive, assuming it can see it ok.

Hi Guys,

There is a front panel option available in 'Settings'--> 'Maintenance' --> 'Advanced' --> 'Use Partition 2' which tells the B2 to use the second partition on the USB device.

That might help.

Regards,
Peter.

Thanks for that info Peter,

Will that work if one of the partitions is not FAT32?

Sorry I seem to be asking awkward questions at the moment 😕

The Itunes folder in the 2nd (FAT32) partition has a different drive letter than the first partition.  The B2 seems to find the Itunes file without problems.  I assume I should be uploading the Itunes folder, correct?

What do you mean by "the file  ... is iTunes format"?
The last time I looked at iTunes, it can play music files that are in any of several different formats: MP3, M4A (both AAC and ALAC codecs), AIFF... iTunes can also play some AAC files that have been "protected" using Digital Rights Management and those will have the extensiion M4P.
Brennan devices should be able to play MP3 and M4A files, but cannot play (and will not upload) M4P files.

I'm puzzled by the fact that the USB disk is plugged into the B2's USB port and you're trying to use the WebUI to upload from there.  Will the B2 do that?  If the disk is connected to the B2's USB port, I'd expect the appropriate function to be the Import command.  I thought the WebUI Upload function wanted to see the source files on a disk connected to the same computer the browser was running on.  I wonder if I've been going on an incorrect assumption for a long time.  Sorry to derail the thread, but would somebody please clear that up for me?

I had this discussion with Tod on my private email.

Fred
What exactly am I missing re: addressing the directory structure :) ?

Thanks
Todd
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Tod

Your music must be arranged thus:
a.JPG
ie top directory/folder = "music"
and below that folders for all the "artists"
and if we then expand an "artist" folder (in this case Vangelis) we get
a.JPG
The CDs/"Albums" for that  "artist"
and if we then expand a CD/Album folder we get
a.JPG
all the music tracks for that CD/Album + the cover art.

NOTE
The B2 uses this folder structure to name and organise the music, it does NOT use any music tags that may be in that music.

Does this help?

From tod
Yes, it does. But how do I actually get the info from the iTunes and place it into that format you show?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Tod,

Ok we have identified the root of the problems you are having.

I am not an Apple user but there are Apple users on the forum who have done this ok.
I will copy this side conversation we have had onto the Forum thread and one of these Apple experts will advise.

From Tod

Ok, thanks. But I am using a windows 10 PC that recognized the Mac-formatted Ipod that I have.  The file structure you showed looks like the Itunes structure...just trying to export the Itunes info with artist-album-song

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To Tod

Oh Ok

Well try this

using your Windows PC plug the USB device into that (not the B2)
Then open File explorer to "find" the music folders on the USB. (just to know the path)
Then power up the B2 and open the web UI in your browser.
and go here

a.JPG
Then find the files thus
a.JPG
and when windows opens the folders choose the one containing the ARTISTS.
a.JPG
this should then load the stuff in that folder

Hi Daniel

Yes, following my offline chat with Tod I believe you are correct, it appears Tod was trying to use the UI upload to get stuff of a USB connected to the B2.
Hopefully this is now sorted out.
We will see how Tod gets on.

Fred
