My new B2 outputs sound via optical and headphones just fine.  However I get nothing from the HDMI connected to my KEF LS50wii.

I've read through all the previous hdmi posts and have tried every suggestion.  The HDMI setting is checked on and when it is output from the optical is disabled.  When I uncheck the HDMI then the optical works again.

Attached is the debug that is produced when I check the HDMI box on.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you're doing the right thing.  But just to be clear, you have to check the box in the WebUI that says "Audio on HDMI (TV)."  The other thing that can cause a problem seems like it has something to do with the HDCP handshaking.  If I have the B2 turned on first, and then switch my receiver to the corresponding HDMI input, I get no sound.  So I have to cycle power on the B2 to get it to connect.  In other words, have the receiving HDMI input powered up and selected before you power on the B2.

In your debug output, I saw something about HDMI being untested since EQ was added.  I don't use the EQ and HDMI works fine for me.  If you are using EQ, then I don't know if that's a factor or not.

Thanks for the thoughts ...

Yes the "Audio on HDMI (TV)" is the box that I have checked.

I just tried having the powered speaker turned on and set to HDMI before turning on the B2.  Still no sound ...

It seems like Brennan should provide more techical specs for the hdmi output and requirements so that it would be easier to pair to a compatible device and debug any problems.  Reading  all the other hdmi labeled posts indicates this is a flaky connection at best.  Luckily I can use the optical instead although it's not as convenient for me.

Yes I performed the HDMI Fix before I began testing the HDMI connection. It hasn't seemed to help.

I also have never used the Equalizer function so I don''t think that can be the issue.

I did include the Debug info because I thought the part about HDMI not being tested might be a clue for someone as to what is going on.

Thanks

Thomas,

As a long time user/non user of the hdmi on the b2, lets try this.  Did you try another hdmi cable?  Make all connections, turn on b2, turn on the Kef, wait about
30 seconds, because of the 'handshake'.  Then try the b2.  I see your KEF has bluetooth, does the b2 bluetooth work on the KEF?  Not sure where the hdmi
compliance is, maybe Paul at support has that info.  I have had the b2 on three different amps, and there was always an issue of the interrupt when something
in the hdmi series was turned on/off.  Not big on bluetooth, but for the past two weeks I had the b2 bluetooth streaming to a tiny bluetooth amp for Holiday music in another room, had no issues.  There are many here to help,  Dan Taylor...Fred....and of course, Paul at Brennan support .  It will get sorted out.

Hi Keith,
Your experience with HDMI and the B2 is interesting in that it seems to be just the opposite of mine.  I've found that the destination device should already be on and waiting for a connection before the B2 is powered up.  That leads me to believe that the B2 only tries to connect at power up.  If it is already on, and receives a signal from the destination device, either it does not respond, or it does not handle the link properly.

Of course, that's all just my attempt at deduction based on what happens between my B2 and my AV receiver.  I'm sure there is a spec for HDMI and HDCP handshaking.   But I'm doubtful that the B2 is well behaved in that regard.

The HDMI Fix function made no difference for me either.

Hi Keith,

The HDMI output was originally intended to provide a debug monitor on a TV and hasn't been developed further (other than the HDMI Fix code) since then.

You said you have tried the optical connection and that worked OK, so any reason you need to use HDMI?

I have just installed my new B2 and have been unable to connect the output to my Pioneer AV Receiver by either HDMI or Bluetooth.

For the HDMI: I have read through this thread and tried all the suggested fixes but still cannot get any sound through my audio system. I can plug the line-out directly to the aux-in on my receiver and this works but has an unsightly cable running across the front of my setup. I do not have an optical cable yet, but I assume that this should work. I am using two AV receivers, one for inside the house and the other one for outdoor speakers and was hoping to use separate B2 connections to each amplifier, say Bluetooth to one and HDMI to the other, and just switch on the amplifier that I wanted to use at any time. This would be fine if I could get the Bluetooth connection to work.

Bluetooth:  I can successfully pair the B2 with my Pioneer AV receiver (the other one does not have Bluetooth) but get no sound. B2 successfully connects to to several other Bluetooth devices with no problem. My iPhone successfully connects to my AV receiver so I know that its Bluetooth function is working. Not sure where to go from here.

There are some workaround solutions such as connecting my outdoor speakers directly to the B2 outputs, but then I would have to add a switch to turn the speakers off when I do not want outdoor music

Hi Roger,
Before I suggest some Bluetooth related things, you might consider starting a new thread for your problems specifically.  Often times there are a fair number of people posting in the forum on any given day, and it can become somewhat confusing keeping up with what has been recommended to whom.

Hi Roger,

Some find that the receiver needs to be powered on before the B2.

There's some additional HDMI code - HDMI Fix - which can be found in the Advanced menu - it should only be loaded once.

When 'Audio on HDMI (TV)' is selected the other B2 outputs (Speakers, Line out and Bluetooth) are disabled.

Paul luckily I can use the optical rather than the hdmi.  However the suggestion that I should need to and that "Hi Keith, The HDMI output was originally intended to provide a debug monitor on a TV and hasn't ..."  is not what I'm looking for.

If the product was advertised truthfully then it would say in it's specifications listing "HDMI Out - play music through your TV or Home Cinema" when clearly it doesn't always and is what can best be described as unreliable.

I like the B2 and am glad I purchased it.  I appreciate all the attempts to help and provide support.  But the idea that the hdmi is not fully implimented/supported as implied in the specifications has be annoyed.

Thankis
