We are on the road without a good enough wi-fi signal to have both our Brennan b2 and my ipad have enough signal to be able to turn off the sound to hdmi tv only.

Brennan was working fine for many days never turning it off and only reducing its volume by the knob or remote.  Using Next on the remote did not return the Brennan to the audio to hdmi tv.

I used the Brennan’s front panel next button and the unit rerturned to sound to tv on hdmi.

Reloaded the app from the apple store and just cannot get the ipad 12 pro to open the apple app and find the Brennan b2 on the list and open the UI long enough to turn off the sound to tv on hdmi so we can listen to the large music library we have on ther Brennan.

Once i turned the Brennan on at home to be part of our home stereo system it defaults to that always it seems.

Is there a way to be able to use the Brennan b2 on the road without a wifi link to be able to turn off the sound to tv via hdmi without an wifi link.

If so a serious drawback to the design IMO.

We are using a pair of Klipsch small speakers direct wired with line out to a small preamp and then to a boston acoustic pv1000 sub.

Everything plays well together.

Now its down and we are in the devils tower campground in the far corner and not enough wifi signal to get the Brennan and the web UI up long enough to turn off the sound to tv via hdmi button on the UI.

Not convenient to have it divert the sound to the tv as the default  setup.

Is this fixable without wifi?

The setting of Audio on HDMI (TV) is not the default.  You must have set it when you were at home with a good signal.  As far as I know, the only way to change it is via the WebUI.

It's not entirely clear to me what you have with you for WiFi.  Did you bring along a router?  If not, then you'd have to depend on connecting to the WiFi at whatever place is providing it.  You can check your WiFi signal strength with the WiFi Strength command (Maintenance menu).  If it's better than -50, then you ought to be able to do what you need.  (-40 is better, -60 is worse).

I have turned it off when i had a good wifi signal.

When I touched the next button on the Brennan B2 unit the sound went off.  Screen scroll leds showed sound on tv thru Hdmi.

Every time i start the Brennan it defaults to the sound to tv on hdmi.

No router along.

Is the programming standard in the Brennan to auto default to the sound out to the tv via HDMI?

Which would be correct for most users and uses.

Except for us who needed a stand alone stereo amp with the FLAC files incorporated into it and with enough amp power to run medium speakers on the dash of our motorhome and could use the line out into a adjustable preamp then into the stereo rca inputs on the 1000 watt boston acoustics PV1000 mounted behind the passenger seat for non directional bass.

Worked great UNTIL i used the units NEXT button on its face.  Back to no sound.

I have to delete the Brennan app and reload it to facilitate locating any Brennan devices on the wifi system.

Great unit.  Maybe make it a little more less computer nerdy.

A change of the program to put a line in the settings menu to allow the unit itself to switch between the sound being defaulted to a hdmi output makes the unit not user friendly for a free standing unit.

The simple setting change would allow universal stand alone use of this excellent high quality device.

Versus you have to have a separate computer AND a wifi link to adjust where the sound output goes?

Is it just me or does this seem a bit incorrect?

I would caution anyone who buys this and intends to use it as a stand alone unit that it cannot be done without a separate computer and wifi.

Versus a line in the settings to allow front panel knob selection?

Am i that unusual to want to use the Brennans excellent stand alone abilities to run a efficient set of speakers and a sub woofer?

Worked great for a week simply by not turning it off.   Just turned the volume to zero.

Remote only for NEXT.

Did not know the unit changes the sound back to default output of hdmi to tv if i use the units NEXT button versus the remotes same function which does NOT change the sounds path to the hdmi/tv path.

Serious drawback IMO.

Tell me i am wrong?

Want to sell a zillion more units?

Make it a true stand alone.  Almost there.  Close.

Help….

We are outdoor people.  We have multiple Inverted li ion power supplies to power the Brennan already.

Had a Bose portable battery operated set of speakers in a case long ago.

This is better sounding my way.

Maybe Martin can update the software to allow separate operation of this critical function on the unit itself.

Versus i need a router and power to it and a separate computer to run the UI which is better.

So we let it play random.  Just next on the remote.

Hi Caflashbob,

If you have a mobile phone with you, does it have a 'Personal Hotspot' option? This can be used to connect to the B2 and you can then open the web UI on the phone to turn off HDMI audio.

Audio on HDMI (TV) is not s default setting and it is a little strange that the B2 reverts to that setting. If you are able to switch off HDMI, as suggested above, press and hold the Play/Stop button until 'saving' has been displayed and disappears before releasing the button - this will force a save of the new setting (HDMI off).
