Hi

My new Bose headphones arrived yesterday and I'm having problems. At first I couldn't get them to pair with the B2.  Today I tried again and got them working.  Having switched off and now tried again, I cannot get my music to come out of the headphones.  The headphones are telling me they are connected and are showing up as connected in the Web UI information.  In the settings menu I tried moving from Bluetooth in to Bluetooth out but this didn't make any difference.  I now can't work out how to get back to Bluetooth in.  I've also tried checking the box on the web UI - wired speakers together and that didn't help either.   NB our speakers are wired directly to the B2 - they are not Bluetooth enabled.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Rita

Hi Rita,

I use a JBL Flip 2 Bluetooth speaker with the B2 and it connects automatically every time. After powering on (the B2 and the Flip 2) I select something to play (Radio normally) on the B2 and a few seconds later the sound comes out of the Flip 2.

On the UI page does the OUT box get checked when the Bose HPs are connected? I also get a speaker icon to the right of the JBL Flip 2 title.

You could try resetting Bluetooth - Settings > Maintenance > Reset Bluetooth and re-pair the Bose HPs. Make sure the HPs are the only BT device active whilst trying to connect (at least until they are connected).

Hi Paul

Thanks for that

1.  If I reset the Bluetooth as you suggest, will that return Bluetooth out (in the settings menu) back to Bluetooth in?  My husband thinks I shouldn't have changed this and I can't find how to change it back!

2.  By out box in the Web UI, do you mean output box?  That isn't checked and I don't have a speaker icon next to my bose headphones.  I can try checking the box but think I need to sort out point 1 first

Hi Paul

This is an update on my earlier post.  We have discovered that pressing the Bluetooth symbol on the key pad will switch between my headphones and our non Bluetooth speakers.  That is great but now I have another problem.  While connecting or using the headphones, the B2 has frozen several times, most recently while I was just listening to music on the headphones.  I returned my B2 in April because it was freezing.  Since it came back, its been fine.  Now, over the weekend its started again.  This seems to be to do with the headphones or Bluetooth.  Any thoughts (when it does freeze, nothing works, including the stop button and I have to shut it down on the rocker switch, which I don't like doing).

Thanks

Hi Rita,

Just checking but does your B2 only freeze when using the Bluetooth?

Hi Paul

Yes.  Twice when we were trying to connect the headphones and once when I was using them.

Hi Paul

I wanted to check something out about using Bluetooth with my Bose headphones. In my attempts to connect at the beginning, I changed Bluetooth In to Bluetooth Out in the settings menu.  Although the phones and B2 are paired - when I switch the headphones on, they say "paired with Brennan B2", I cannot get music to the headphones until I press the pairing button on the headphones.  Then if I press the Bluetooth icon on the remote, I get a connecting message and music changes to my headphones.  Pressing this again disconnects and when I switch my headphones off, music is back to the B2.  Is this because I have the B2 set to Bluetooth out?  (I don't understand the difference between Bluetooth in or out but notice on your website that Brennan are not supporting Bluetooth out) I have tried to change it back but can't work out how to.  Is this important or just one way of using Bluetooth?

Thanks

Hi Rita,

The B2 can both -

Send music to a Bluetooth device such as your headphones and Receive music from a Bluetooth device such as an iPhone or Tablet.

I have paired two devices, a JBL Flip 2 speaker (the equivalent of your headphones) and an iPhone containing music.

So first thing I switch on the B2 and let is boot up. I then turn on the JBL Flip 2 speaker which goes straight to BT discovery mode (the BT LED is flashing) - I would imagine your headphones would do this also, and within 2-3s they have connected. The B2 displays 'Bluetooth OK' and the JBL chirps to indicate a connection. I can they play the B2 to the JBL speaker. The B2 displays the now playing playing screen.

To then play the iPhone to the B2, I have to go to the BT menu on the iPhone and select the Brennan B2, which after 3-4s shows 'connected'. The B2 then displays Bluetooth (indicating an input connection).

In fact I have found that I can send music from my iPhone to the B2 which then sends it simultaneously to the JBL Flip2 Bluetooth speaker i.e. receiving and sending at the same time. I can also receive Internet Radio on the B2 and send it to the JBL via Bluetooth.

It does this without needing set the in or out options i.e. it knows if the connected device is input or output (that's correct Bluetooth protocol).

When the B2 is playing music from a BT device and using the front panel controls, the 'Bluetooth out' option (settings > Bluetooth out) is to switch the B2 from receive mode to connect to a speaker/headphones type device. As I have said I don't need to touch this, the JBL connects automatically.

The message on the website really means we are unable to support Bluetooth any further due to the myriad of devices out there that require different software tricks to work correctly (unfortunately Bluetooth is not as universal as it should be). What we are trying to say is 'if it works that's great but if you are having problems it could be due to the particular device you are using'.

Hi All,

Rita has emailed me to say -

Thanks for that. I’ve experimented and found the answer was to turn the headphones on first. Then pressing the Bluetooth icon on the remote connects and music comes through the headphones. Pressing the BT icon again disconnects and the music plays through our loudspeakers.
I really appreciate your help and the B2 forum with all the technical questions/issues I’ve had
Rita
