trying to connect to a sonos roam and it recognizes my network, I can stream to it from the brennan b2 url, but when I try to connect with sonos ap  -- configuring the share-- as instructied    //brennanb2/music  then "root" and "brennan" for pasword, it says access denied or cant find -- this is both with upper and lower case and with forward and backward slashes.  It worked on the first Brennan b2 that I sent back because CD didn't work, but the replacement I cant get the sonos roam to  recognize the share--
any ideas?

Just so I understand
1) You have a B2 with music on it and the B2 is connected to your house Router (it has an IP number).
2) you have a Sonos Roam speaker
3) the Sonos Roam has been set up using the Sonos App ( and you can play music to it using the Sonos App system)
4) the B2 will "push" music to the Sonos Roam from the B2 Web UI.
5) You cannot see the B2 music holdings from within the Sonos App. You have tried connecting to the B2 from the Sonos app using   //brennanb2/music  then "root" and "brennan" for pasword.

OK ?

If the above is correct my first question is - Have you turned on the B2's NAS ? This needs to be on for the Sonos App to see the B2's music holdings
a.JPG

You get to this using the front display menu system - "main menu > settings > maintenance > Start NAS".

Once you have started the B2 NAS then try (5) above again.

Hope this helps

Hi rber...,

There is a known issue with the Sonos Roam and the 'Experimental' software shown on our Latets Software page - link - left hand column - offers a fix for this. This software has to be loaded via USB memory stick using the SW Upgrade option in the Maintenance menu.

I have been running this software (as others have) some a while now and have not encountered any problems, so safe to try. You can always do a Web Upgrade to load the 22 Oct 2021 software if you do encounter any problems.

We would welcome your feedback if you do try the Experimental version.

The NAS is definitely working and I play the through sonos using the Brennan url.  Also and the  brennan b2 software--- Dec 2021

Hi rber...,

Can you see the B2 as  BRENNANB2  on your computer - File Explorer > Network for Windows or Finder for MACs?

Yes and I can move files back and forth, and even play the files in the Brennan on my mac.  I access it through finder -go - network, and there it is, listed under my networks. as brennanb2   (in lower case) and then the music folder underneath is has a share logo.

Hi,
Have you tried connecting using the IP address of the B2 rather than brennanb2
I.e something like
 \\192.168.0.nnn\music

I am having similar problems.  I am no longer able to update my Music Library on Sonos.  Then I tried to reload the B2 to the Music Library and it starts then stops saying it is no longer recognised.  Maybe this does not matter as I now just send the music from the B2 to the Sonos speakers.

Hi Tim,

The Brennan Web UI and the Brennan NAS are both delivered using standard Linux utilities/applications, they just work! If they did not ALL Brennan customers would be complaining because we are all using the same software on the same hardware.I

The problems users are seeing relate either to their house Router configuration or performance or the configurations of their PCs, Laptops, Tablets or Phones. A Brennan is usually the first tim most users have installed a "Server" device in their home and it is showing up inherent deficiencies in their home (usually WiFi) setup for the first time. Problems with the "plumbing"!

I know that the above statements do not help in relation to the REAL problems some people are having, but it should be taken as a pointer regarding where to look.

Hi Fred

I am sure you are right in relation to the "plumbing".  I am just struggling to understand what has happened when it was all working fine previously.  Anyway, it may be that it does not matter as I can happily send
music to my  Sonos speakers without having to rely on the music library facility.

I succeeded in getting the Sonos app to create a library  music share with   //192.168.0.nnn/music   I hit done and it said it would create the library and then when I hit done-- it looked like nothing happened, I had to tell it to update the libary -- and then it greyed out and said it was updating, it took a while,  but then it was there! it was very confusing. But worth it!  Much more elegant.

Hi rber...,

Great news. So did you have to do an extra step to get the library to update? What did you select?

I am still struggling to set up the music library in Sonos.  I tried rebooting the rooter and wifi, rebooting the Sonos system, changing the Sonos channel, using the  //192.168.0.nnn/music approach, checking that I can see the B2 on my Mac but nothing works.  The Sonos recognises the B2, starts the process, I can hear the HDD whirring but eventually the I get a pop up message along the lines that it cannot connect, the path may have changed etc.  I have checked NAS is running.  It ran fine since this feature was introduced but stooped being able to update and now wont reload the library.

Fred, Paul - is there anything obvious I am missing do you think.  Is it because my B2 is too big for the Sonos Music Library?

I had no success last year connecting the music library with Sonos1 speaker. I didn’t try very hard as I’m content to use the Brennan Ui but having read this thread I thought I’d have another go.
I succeeded but of 650 odd albums only about 200  appear on the Sonos app under Album and in the A section are about 60  named Album + number ‘Unknown’. Compose, Artist labels on the app are similarly incomplete. Almost no album art is shown.
I’ve run Scan disc on the B2 and tried to update music library on the Sonos app several times.
I’m not desperate to do this but it would be nice to do it properly having begun. Grateful for help.

Rik, I know what you mean.  I use the Bennan ui to send music to the Sonos speakers so in theory can live without the music library.  However, I would quite like to make it work, having used it successfully before.

Hi Rik & Tim,

I suspect that the tracks the Sonos is seeing as unknown are tracks which do not have their metadata tags populated.

Sonos uses the tags to help create its index.

The B2 software does have a tagging function though it has the reputation of being somewhat slow

>SETTINGS>MAINTENANCE>TAG MUSIC

If you have a computer you can use software like MP3Tag to edit tags for existing track tags including editing tags  and names across multiple selected tracks at once.
There is other software that will do this as well.
Alternatively you can re-rip the CDs.

Thanks John.  I suspect that this is a different issue to the one I have been having.  When I had a music library on Sonos and could update it, I had tagged all of my B2 files and Sonos saw them and recognised the art work.

Thanks, John. As the tagging on the B2 is Experimental I shan’t use that and probably won’t bother with the other methods at the moment but it’s useful info.

Hi Rik,

There is a 'Retag Album' in the Album menu - accessed via the front panel control - which will allow you to try it one Album at a  time. You need to update the library on Sonos after tagging.

Hi Tim,

How many Tracks do you have on the B2 - wondering if Sonos has a limit?

Hi Paul

39,500 on B2.  The Sonos limit is 65,000 I believe.  However, I think my B2 "library" exceeds the size generally for the Sonos Music Library.  Do you think that woud stop me creating the Sonos music library in the first place?

Thanks for the reply, Paul. I tried ré-tagging one album, as it happens the last one I ripped. No joy. It would be rather tedious to find the others to try as some I listened to I can’t easily identify. So I’ll probably leave it at that.
I should like to know why the majority of albums didn’t appear at all in the Sonos index though.

Hi Rick

Just in case I am missing something, you are aware that after the Sonos library index, you can see ALL your B2 music via the file/folder view in Sonos. Using that access the files look EXACTLY like they do in the brennan interface and they are all there

I thought I’d looked there earlier but not sure now but they do seem to be there. So thank you. Because of the way I label and select music (by composer - I’m mainly classical) it’s not the optimum way for me to find things on Sonos but I am be quite satisfied.  Another arm to my Brennan enjoyment.
Thanks again.

Hi Tim,

I'm not a Sonos expert but thought it might be worth checking if there was a number of tracks limit. It sounds like you're thinking there may be a memory limit....
