Hi, greetings from Australia

I have my HP Computer notebook connected to my Brennan B2 via my home network and it works brilliantly for controlling the playlist and playing tracks

I am a volunteer DJ at a  Not for Profit Community local Radio Station and I would love to use the same feature there. I have tried connecting my Brennan to their Network and it "Fails". Likewise I tried connecting my Brennan to my Phone "Hotspot" but again it failed. The passwords in both cases were definitely correct and in both cases my notebook connects

Help please if you can !

Hi Dave,

You could try Reset WiFi (Maintenance menu) and then run Setup WiFi again.

Is the Radio Station network 5GHz by any chance?

Hi Dave,

Greetings from Northern Ireland.

Can you post the version of software that your B2 is currently on.  If it is not up to date, run a Web Upgrade' while you are at home on your 'good' network.

There were issues with WiFi connections on older versions of B2 software which have been addressed.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi Paul

Thanks for your response

I have Reset the WiFi and also done a Web Upgrade. No difference.

I note your question with 5G, does the B2 not support 5G, my phone for example is 5G?

Regards

Dave

I note your question with 5G, does the B2 not support 5G, my phone for example is 5G?

"5G" (fifth generation) is a designation for a cellular telephone standard. "5GHz" (five gigahertz) is a frequency band used by wifi systems -- it's a newer allocation that supplements the older 2.4GHz frequency band used previously.

No wifi device connects to 5G cell towers. Your phone has a completely different kind of wireless radio hardware from a wifi dongle, card, or router (although your phone might have that one also, if it can connect to wifi in addition to cell towers).

The wifi dongle supplied with the B2 connects to 2.4GHz routers (or dual-band routers on the 2.4GHz band) only. So if your radio station network router is 5GHz-only, the B2 will not connect.

Thanks Mark, appreciate the feedback, at least I know now it will not work via my phone. I will check if the radio station is 5G and if it is then that is the end of the road!

Thanks again

Hi Dave,
The WiFi dongle that's normally used for the B2 has a RT5370 chipset which operates at 2.4GHz.  I read here in the forum that there are dongles you gan get that use the RT5572 chipset, work with the B2, and work for dual-band, both 2.4 and 5GHz.  I have not tried it.  Your situation seems like a good opportunity to investigate.

Hi Daniel

Many thanks for this

Forgiver my ignorance, but when you talk about WiFi Dongle, are you talking about the "Thing" that goes into USB A socket in the back of the Dongle?

WiFi dongle is just another way to refer to the WiFi adapter that plugs in to either of the USB ports.

Thanks Daniel, I think we are talking about the same "Thingy" so I will try and get one from the electronics shop here

Hi Dave,

This is the WiFi dongle - marked 802.11n - the photo is off the internet so may be slightly different to the one supplied with the B2.

150Mbps USB WiFi Adapter, LOTEKOO Wireless Network Card ...
The dual band dongle Daniel refers to is available from the Pi Hut - Dual Band WiFi Dongle.

What model and brand is the home router?

Hi Paul

Thanks for your reply, I must say I have been very impressed with the prompt help and assistance I have been getting from support and also from other responders.

My Dongle is an 802.11n, there are no other markings

Pi Hut are out of stock of the Dual Band Dongle but I have put my name down to be notified when they have stock

Thanks again, Martin you have a great team!

Dave
