Hi

I am using the b2 "as a NAS" to stream music to a Roon endpoint (Roon core is not stored on b2, only the music). After 5 minutes or so the b2 falls into standby mode (to convert wav to flac files, stay idle). This is when my Roon server looses connection to the b2 and the music stops playing.

Is there any way to prevent the b2 from going into standby mode?

I know that this can be solved by using an Ethernet cable. I am wondering if the b2 can also be stopped from going into standby by when using the WiFi dongle.

Thanks for your help.

I think that if you have a browser tab open and connected to the WebUI that the B2 will not go into standby.  Easy to test.

Hi M,

Having the B2 web UI open will stop it going into Standby.

My B2 seems to lose its IP address, or my router forgets it's connected, when the B2 is in standby. Is there another way to stop it going into standby? I don't want my computer on 24/7 just to keep the B2 awake and I'm happy to let my B2 stay on all the time. I think it's robust enough - my 10-year-old JB7 is never powered off.

Hi Dick,

The B2 will go into Standby after 5 minutes of no activity and can be woken up by pressing any button on the unit or opening the web UI.

I think the IP problem is probably related to the router rather than B2. What do you have to do to get the B2 reconnected each time?

if you want your B2 to stay active on the NAS while playing on the Roon server  then set the B2 to  play some random music files and if it is connected to wired speakers (or a separate amp)  just  turn down the volume to zero while the Roon server plays something else over the NAS service. That way the B2 will not go into standby. When you go to bed and are no longer listening over NAS, stop the B2 and shortly after the unit will go into standby and then  start to process the WAV files into FLAC overnight. This can contnue ad infinitum until all you files are compressed !
Simples!

Paul, yes I'm fairly sure the address-switching problem is caused by the router too. But it seems to be worse when the B2 goes into standby. I don't have to do anything to get the B2 reconnected when it wakes up, it does it itself but it seems the router incorrectly does not honour the 'use the same address' setting. I know that's a router problem  but if I can solve it by changing a setting or something on the B2 then that will be cheaper and less work than getting a new router. I'm not sure I want to leave it running playing music as per gps's solution (which may be the answer to a different problem).

Hi Dick,

Have you tried having the web UI open?

Yes, but as I said before ( 29 Mar 2021, 14:55:24 ) I don't really want my computer on 24/7. My last computer died when the fan died - if you've ever tried to replace the fan on a Lenovo X series you'll know that it's buried under the motherboard and is a very expensive replacement. The Brennan doesn't have a fan and seems robust enough to be on 24/7. Is there any setting in the B2 I can change?

Hi Dick,

There isn't a setting currently but will ask Martin B.

You can have the UI running on your phone.
