Hi

I have encountered an issue with the Flac+MP3 compression.

Before starting today the Debug list showed that I had 58 mirrored MP3 tracks and all the Tracks had been compressed to Flac. I have read the posts on this type of compression so I closed the User Interface before using the remote control to set "Compression Mode" to Flack + MP3 and then going into "Compression Now"

My B2 went into compression mode and the red-light on the front of the unit started blinking. After just over an 90 minutes I stopped the compression and ran a Scan of the HDD.
After this I ran the Debug tool and it showed that in the time frame it had mirrored another 11 Tracks. (This works out to approx 176 in a 24 hour period)

The issue is this that at the start and when checked during the process and at the end the counter numbers stayed at 1 of 8903. At the various times I did check the percentage figure could be seen to be changing but the figures in the counter remained the same.

From the posts I have read the compression may be a bit on the slow side but it is working so my question is should the counter be showing the number of tracks that have been mirrored to MP3 in 'real time'?

I have copied the Debug report mentioned above and have attached it for your review.

Many thanks

In the past day or two, I read that there is a known bug with the MP3 background compression.  I think it might have something to do with the exact symptons you mentioned.  They are working on it and a new release should be coming soon.

Hi CPT,

The progress display has been fixed in the latest version of software - 8th July 2020 - so do a Web Upgrade. This was only to do with the display and tracks were being compressed. There is now a 'Delete Mirror' option in the Maintenance menu.

This version also makes sure tags are maintained during the FLAC to MP3 conversion. If you need MP3 tags e.g. for Sonos, you'll have to delete the mirrored MP3 file and start the FLAC to MP3 process again.

Hi Paul

I have uploaded the new software thank you. I deleted the mirror tracks that had already been converted and started the process again this afternoon.

The counter is working perfectly.

Hi CPT,

Thanks for the update.

Please let us know if you encounter any further issues with the compression - not expecting any after the update.

Hi All,

Anyone following this this thread and has already done a fair bit of FLAC to MP3 conversion and doesn't want to delete the 'mirror' file and start again. I suggested on another thread that you could try leaving the FLAC-MP3 compression to finish, export the 'mirror' file to a USB stick, load it onto your computer and run a program such as Mp3Tag to add tags (I haven't tried it myself but think it should work - don't think you can import this back to the B2 though).

Hi Guys,

If you enable NAS access to your B2,  you can access the B2 'music' folder through your PC/ Mac. You can then use 'mp3Tag' directly on the 'mirror' folders and tag them 'in situ'

Regards,
Peter.
