I read in a few conversations that a rip speed of about 20x is fairly good, but some may find their speeds might get down to 10x.
WHAT???
The best speed I get on my B2 (2TB) is somewhere around 6x. That’s the best (and not all that often). Normal rip speeds range from 2x to about 4x.
Is it me, or what?
Any advice on how I might speed it up would be appreciated.
Bob.

I rip on my computer - it's much faster.  And doing it there allows me to edit as needed, the tags are populated at the same time, and I feed my backup simultaneously.

My experience was that that 20x was rare using the internal B2 drive. 4 to 6 was common, but I also had quite a lot around 10x.

I used an external CD drive sometimes, which was significantly faster, and ripped the last few hundred CDs to my laptop, with  the benefits of faster speeds and being able to rip direct to FLAC, so no compression time later after loading to the B2.

I don't know of any way to speed up ripping other than the above: my impression is that it's probably more to do with the characteristics of the CD than the B2. Others here will no doubt know a lot more.

Hi Bob,

Rip speed does depend on the CD. I would say 6x to 10x is more typical although I have seen 20x on occasions - ripped around a 1,000 CDs.

An external CD Drive can give higher rip speeds.

How old is the B2?
