When I first got the B2 I loaded all my CD's but many of them failed to be recognised at that time and although copied were incorrectly listed. Is there an easy way to retrospectively scan these albums and tracks to get them correctly listed.
thanks

Hi Robert,

There are a few ways you could complete the naming of your collection.
A  few questions to help narrow down the options.
1 Do you have access to a computer with a CD drive ?
2 Are you comfortable with installing software to rip your CDs onto your computer and then uploading to the B2 ?

Hi Robert,

There is no function to rename Artists, Album or Tracks retrospectively and the options are either to rename them manually or delete and rip them again.

To get a better hit rate make sure the B2 is connected to WiFi (displaying an IP Address) and the internet (displaying the clock) so it can use the online CD database.

John's suggestion is to rip the un-named CDs to your computer, as it may find the title info better than the B2 and then transfer them to the B2.

Thanks, John ... the answer is yes and yes. I have NAS enabled and can see all of the albums and tracks in Filemanager and was considering using something like shazam or my own ears to identify the content. I was hoping there may be a more cunning and faster method :)

Hi Robert,

Given that you have NAS running you should download 'Mp3Tag' from the web and give it a try.  This is what I used to get my collection (1500 albums) fully named and tagged.  It is free to use (but you can make a voluntary donation if you want to).

It has some very good functions line 'Convert Tag - Filename', Convert Filename - Tag' and others.  It has a 'Tag Sources' menu so that you can select and download tag data from MusiBrainz, freedb, Discogs, etc.

My collection has moved from being very scrappy to now looking pretty good.  Of course it still takes time, but my rate of progress increased dramatically once I got used to Mp3Tag's functionality.

Although it is named 'Mp3Tag' it tags any of the formats, such as 'flac'.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi Robert,

You mentioned Shazam in one of your posts.

Musicbrainz Picard software offers "Shazam like" functionality.

I put the attached together some time ago to describe how I have used it to identify and rename music tracks

Hi John,

Thanks very much for the information about Picard.  I downloaded the software a while ago but haven’t used it for reasons I’ll explain.

I have loaded about 1200 CDs onto my B2 in the same way as you did.  I also used dBpoweramp to deal with the ones that the B2 initially missed.  There are still over a hundred leftovers.  I also intend eventually to digitise tapes and vinyl and upload them to the B2. My question is whether Picard does anything more than dBpoweramp given that both use the Musicbrainz database which is presumably identical.  I’m keen to avoid having to type data in as I have problems with typing.

Best wishes, Bruce

Hi Bruce,
What Picard offers over and above  CD rippers and other tag editors is its ability to recognise a ripped audio file from its acoustic signature .
So even if you cannot find a particular CD in a database you may still be able to identify individual tracks.
I used to subscribe to a monthly physical CD service from an Americana music website. These are compilations that have mostly never been uploaded to public CD databases but the individual tracks can be found on other CDs by the artists.
Picard allows you to rename a track based on the tags it finds for the track it identifies.
The only other software I am aware of that does this is Kid3 and I think it uses the same Musicbrainz algorithm.

Thanks very much, John. I will now give Picard a try on the remaining CDs using your manual.
