Just sorted out the difference between b2export and hardfi.
On both backups the playlists do backup but quite a few have their original colour name instead of the saved new name.  Same colours on bath backups.  Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Alan :)

The "hardfi" format is ONLY for transfer between a Brennan JB7 and a Brennan B2.
For making security backups of your B2 you should only be using the "Export to USB A or C" menu command. (which does not create a "hardfi"!.

Hi Guys,

Although the B2 will restore JB7 'Backup' formats, there is a hidden issue with using the 'Backup' (hardfi) format.  That is if you use the 'Backup' function on the B2, the combined 'Artist' and 'Album' name string will be truncated to 64 characters.  You won't know this until you 'Restore' your music collection on the B2, you will find that the 'albumname' will possibly have been 'chopped'!  This 64 character limit is the maximum string length that the older JB7 models can use.

So, unless you need to remain compatible with a JB7 you should always use the 'Export' function on the B2 to secure your music colllection.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi Alan,

The 'colour' Playlists will be backed up with their original 'colour' name however if you open one from the Playlist folder (using Notepad++) you'll see the renamed name.

Import (and Restore) does not load the Playlists only the 'music' - you need to use 'Load Playlists' - Playlists menu - to import the backed up Playlists.

Fred & Peter

Backup/Restore NOT limited wrt. Import/Export ?

There's no problem with use of B2 backup/restore, I've used it without problems for over 4 years.

I'm puzzled by your statement that the use of B2 backup/restore has album+artist length limitation (64 characters) compared to use of B2 import/export. I use backup/restore with album+artist lengths of up to 123 characters with no problems from cropped characters. (50 artist, 3 spaces, 70 album title, re-tested today for both restore and backup).

I suspect the comment should refer only to use of the jb7 where I believe a limit applies (80 characters from my recollection ?), and artist+album lengths greater than this are cropped by the jb7.

software Nov 13 2018 17:10 - remains stable and satisfies my requirements.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for your update.  I'll test the 'Backup/Restore again on the B2; I could have mixed up the results between 'Backup from the B2 to Restore on the JB7' and 'Backup from the B2 to Restore to the B2'.

I have been doing a number of data moves from one device the another and could have got this wrong.  If I have, I'll detete the post above and will offer an apology for the bad information.

On the JB7, the total 'artist+album' lstring ength is 64 characters and that includes the 3 'space' characters between the artist name and album name.

Regards,
Peter.
