How do you upgrade to a 512gb SD card on the 64gb B2 SD?

Hi,

I purchased a 512gb SD card to upgrade my brand new 64gb Brennan B2 SD. I've tried several times to format and copy the files to the 512gb card using the B2 and instructions posted under Techy Stuff and Miscellaneous to no avail.

From my computer I can see that there is a BOOT partition and a music partition on the 512gb card so I think I must be doing something right, but when I replace the card in the B2 all I get is the flashing red and green lights but no screen info or anything else. Any suggestions?

Cheers,
joe

Joe-
I don't know how these are formatted, but some general comment:

You don't have SD cards, you have SDXC cards. SD stops at 2GB, SDHC stops at 32GB. SDXC can hit something like 2TB although not all devices support that.

Take the original 64GB card and read the properties on your computer. Normally, SD-whatever cards DO NOT have partitions on them, they just have subdirectories (folders). Also look at the partition type, it is probably FAT32, or exFAT. If it is FAT32 and your computer is a Windows system, Windows often won't format large FAT32 devices, you'd need third party software. Similarly, if there really are two partitions on the card, you'll probably need third party software. And again, not all software will create partitions.

If you're on a Mac..or Linux....I've no idea what software will recreate the right structure on the card. But that's probably what it will come down to. Anything beyond "files on the card" and you need software that has the extended abilities to do what you want.

Odds are that someone has done that already and will soon post a comment telling you what to use, if you haven't uncovered it from this start.

Hi Joe,

Here are some instructions from another B2 customer who successfully upgraded her SD Card -

1) Put the new SD card in the USB adaptor and insert in drive C - ignore the "mount failed" message on the LED screen.
2) Use Settings/Maintenance/SD to USB C - when finished
3) Use Settings/Maintenance/Copy SD music
4) Insert new card in old SD slot
5) Go to Settings > Maintenance > Reboot - the B2 will do a scan at this point

Hope this helps.

Hi

I have a similar situation except my 64gb (non HDD) machine is an older model - before the new models with the internal micro SD Ive been ready about (fancy!)

I have tried the 5 steps above (I don't get a 'mount failed' message).
Copying to the SD card is no problem and I can see the music on the card (via my web ui and on my Mac Book if I dismount the card and connect it)

However, after step 4, all I get are the dreaded flashing red/green lights.
I cannot then do step 5 because there is nothing on the screen.

I am not technical but Im guessing that the "boot" element is missing. The machine can't reboot off the new SD card.

What am I missing?
Any help much appreciated.

Hi Marcus,

This is from another customer who did a 64GB SD Card upgrade -

here's what I did using the instructions below (from the website)
There are two notes that could be combined...

1) Put the SD card in the USB adapter and insert in drive C
ignore the "mount failed" message on the LED screen.
2) Use Settings/Maintenance/SD to USB C - when finished
3) Use Settings/Maintenance/Copy SD music
4) Insert new card in old SD slot
5) I think??   I did a Settings/Maintenance/Reboot but I may have just turned it off and on...
but I guess from reading the 2nd entry b2 has to scan to find the content.

Hope it helps.

Hi

I was getting stuck with these instructions because my software seems to be a little different and the "SD to USB C" option is actually under another sub-menu: Advanced!

So, Step 2 becomes

Settings/Maintenance/Advanced/ SD to USB C !

Finally cracked it!
Thank you for the help.

Hi Marcus,

Glad to hear you sorted it.

Yes we did move some of the less used (development) commands to the Advanced menu from 4th July. There's a table showing the menu structure on the website here.
