Hi All,

Very happy (to this point) with my new BB1 but encountered an issue updating to the Jul20 image today where it seemed not to fully reboot after the update (though Stats does show that datestamp and I might have just not noticed the reboot) and now preset button 2 leads to a "Factory" menu (25 items on menu). I tried reprogramming Preset2 with the station that should be there but it does not do anything. Also, most of yesterday there was a red warning on bottom of screen (where IP usually is) that filesystem was readonly and I was unable to play any Internet Radio station yesterday. Also I was unable to power off via the power button, first press was normal but the confirmation just returned to the idle screen. I force powered off a couple times yesterday (pulled batteries) but this did not resolve issues. I powered off yesterday evening by pulling power and after powering up today things are not much better (no readonly flag though. It believe that the readonly message that was encountered yesterday was due to my force rebooting it.

I do have a full (I hope) backup on a separate SDcard from a couple weeks ago, but am unsure how best to proceed. I am confortable with SSHing in if needed (in fact I went in yesterday and observed a recommendation to run fsck but was unable to run it while filesystem was mounted, again I think this was due to the unclean shutdowns).

What would be the best next step? :)

Thanks!

DP

Sorry I can't help. I am suffering a similar problem with the Jul 20th update. The only problem I have found so far is not being able to  power down correctly. Re-downloading the update did not solve the problem.

Hi DP,

I believe the Jul 20th update was only for some B2s and not the BB1.

20th July 2021New feature for B2. Create a playlist called "Blacklist" and anything that appears in that list will not play during random play. You can specify tracks, albums or artists. This upgrade is only for B2B software - original B2 and BB1 to follow.

I think your best bet is to mount the backup SD card you have and reboot from that,

John

Hi David and JFBUK, thanks for your input on this.

With regard to it possibly be only for B2B, that was a bit of a concern at first but I noticed that on prior updates they also state it was for platform X at first and Y & Z in the works, but they never state when Y and Z is released, so I think the expectation is that if we do (on whatever platform) the web update and it does not pull anything new then the new version is not prepared yet (and they add that verbiage in to warn users that theirs might take a day or two longer). In my case, in Stats it shows

Version BB1 Jul20 2021 15:02:23

Thanks for the guidance on the possible fix, I will certainly do that if nothing easier is forthcoming soon (my backup SDCard is half the size of the "live" one so I would have to shuffle twice to return to the desired config. I am hoping it is an easier fix, whether a refactored firmware release for BB1 or maybe an edit of the files.

One thing I tried (but did not work) was to SSH in and manually cleared all files in  /tmp (which it seems pulls files from the SD card volume on each boot and makes live updates there that, ideally, would be written back to their proper place on proper shutdown. My hope was that these files in /tmp may be persisting the unclean shutdowns that we are forced to  do and the problem might be there, but nope!

thanks again for the input!

Hi All,

Martin did a software release for testing purposes and it sounds like you have inadvertently loaded that version. He is working on a fix for power off and the other issues you mention.

As a temp fix you can download the file shown on the Latest Software - this file - and load it to the BB1 using a USB memory stick and the 'USB Upgrade' command - Maintenance menu.

Hi Paul,

That image worked perfectly. Both the power off issue and the (seemingly outlier) Preset2 hard-button issue are resolved.

Many thanks for the assistance!

Hi All,

Martin has fixed the issues with the 20 July 2021 version so you can do a Web Upgrade - it is now dated 26th July 2021.

Hi all,

I've just done a web upgrade of my BB1 as my Android app couldn't find it, and it's all gone very wrong - when I turn it back on, I get a brief white screen with 'brennan' on it, then a blank screen.  (The screen is on, with a slight hint of yellow at the bottom, but no image or text.) Pressing any of the buttons does nothing.  Help!  Hoping for a relatively non-techy solution.
