As a relatively new b2 user, I have been very pleased with the little box so far. To date, I've uploaded about 300 CDs which give me about 4100 tracks. I run it off the web UI and it's performed flawlessly, until today.

I had been listening for at least 3 hours and was enjoying a performance by theater organist George Wright. The b2 stopped playing abruptly. No pops glitches or other indications that anything was amiss, it just stopped cold.. It didn't fade down, it just stopped as if I had pulled out the output cables. (I'm using the analog line outputs, by the way).

The b2 screen display still showed the track it had been playing. Turning the function knob showed the volume level changing. I then pushed the stop button and got "Saving" but it wouldn't go any further. After 5 minutes or so, and with some trepidation, I powered down, waited 30 seconds or so, and powered up. It came back up perfectly normally. I then when back to the album I had been playing and restarted it. It played normally, as did the rest of that album. It's still playing as I write this and seems perfectly happy. Any thoughts?

While I'm at it, here's another minor glitch I've noticed. If the b2 has been off for several hours, like overnight, when I power back on, I get the blinking red/green lights, but no further if I then power down and back up, it starts up normally. It does this every time.
Again, any thoughts.

You first problem is a little difficult to explain - transient germline? but it could be related to your second.
When you power on the B2 you should get slashing red and green lights but these should stop after a bit and the machine should settle to just a red light (it is part of the boot sequence). If the red and green lights continue to flash and do not stop, this indicates a problem with the boot and usually relates to the little SD Card (separate from the HDD on which you music sits) in the B2 containing the Operating software. if there is a problem here it COULD also cause your machine to freeze.

To fire fight this
1) run a "Scan Disk" (red light will flash). when this stops and has completed, close the B2 by pressing and holding in the "Play/Stop" button until "saving" appears on the front display. wait for the clock to re-appear and reboot.
If the B2 behaves better now - stop here.
2) if the B2 still has the booting problems, the next step is to power it off and take the back off (to screws in the back plate) and re-seat the little SD Card (while it is out gently clean the contacts with a pencil rubber). then replace the card and close the unit up and reboot).
If the B2 behaves better now - stop here.
3) if the flashing problem continues then I would suggest you ask Brennan to send you a new SD Card.

Hi Louis,

Excellent answer from Fred. Please try his suggestions and if you get to 3), email us on -   thebrennanb2   @   Gmail   .   com   - no spaces, with an address for delivery (and the reason) and we will send a new SD Card for you to try.

For step 2) - take care not to pull the rear section out more than 40mm otherwise you may disconnect the CD Drive - not the end of the world but rather fiddly to put back. See our Techy Stuff page - link - the SD Card (black) is shown in the 2nd photo.
