I am considering buying a B2 and I am in the process of organising my MP3 collection so I can transfer it to the B2. Will my existing playlists (.m3u or .pls files) work with the B" or will I have to recreate them using the B2?

Also, I know the B2 only rips to MP3 at 128 but I trust it will playback any MP3s.

Thanks for your help.

Hi John,

the B2 can import/load playlists.

The format the B2 uses for each entry in the playlist is plain text.

For individual tracks

/{album artist}/{album name}/{trackname}.mp3  e.g. /Rolling Stones/Sticky Fingers/03 Wild Horses.mp3

or for whole albums

/{album artist}/{album name} e.g.  /Morrison, Van/Astral Weeks

This mirrors the way the B2 organises music files on its hard drive

If you can export your existing playlists into text files in the B2 expected format then you may  save yourself time but you will need to make sure that when you rip or load your files to the B2 that the file names align.

Not something I have done I'm afraid

There is also a header line at the top of the file.  I have not looked at a playlist file in quite awhile, so I don't remember exactly how it goes.  But I think it has the name of the playlist.

When you get your B2, you can add a few items to a playlist, maybe rename it (if you like), and then do the Export Playlist command (Playlist menu) to a USB stick.  Then look at it with a text editor, and you can see how your own playlists should look.

Hi John,

I don't think you will be able to directly import your existing playlists unless they follow the format that JFBUK describes.

Here's an example with the header (viewed with Notepad++) -

#name=Red
/AIR/Moon Safari/02 Sexy Boy.flac
/ADAMS Bryan/So Far So Good/01 Summer Of '69.flac
/Aerosmith/Big Ones/Love In An Elevator.mp3
/Ace Of Base/Flowers/03 Cruel Summer.flac
