B2 that keeps freezing

Hello Folks,
Having had the sound output issue sorted (thank you Paul) I now have a problem with the device freezing repeatedly.  It will halt while idle, while playing from the HDD and from CD, with the display freezing part way through the lower line scrolling and the buttons on both the unit and the remote being unresponsive.  The time between freezes varies frrom maybe an hour down to a few minutes.  The only option to recover functionality I've found is to turn it off and on at the back.  Ironically, the only mode in which it doesn't freeze is when playing my 160GB iPod through the Aux/LineIn, having bought the B2 in part to replace the iPod.  I've done software updates and scans (it even froze part way through a scan) and the problem persists.  I use it only to play to wired (Brennan) speakers and the only wi-fi connection is to the control interface on laptop, tablet and phone.
Any thoughts/suggestions from the collective very gratefully received!
Thank you
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Sounds to me that it could be caused by 1) corrupt B2 software - the SD Card, 2)  OR a Hardware problem with the B2 or 3) OR trouble with the WiFi

To eliminate 3) first, could you first try and play the radio though the B2 and see what happens.
If that still freezes or does not work, please remove the WiFi Dongle and drive your machine with the Front Display or the remote to play music and see if it freezes then.

If it DOES then the next elimination would be 1) the SD Card. - Ask Paul to send you a replacement.

If a new SD Card does not clear the issue, you will need the B2 replacing.

Many thanks Fred, much appreciated.  I'll try those suggestions over the weekend.

Thanks again

Hello Paul,

Yes I did, thank you for checking.  Removing the wifi dongle and driving it directly from the unit controls worked a treat.  I had used a short USB extender lead so that the dongle could sit on top of the unit as I had limited space at the rear, so I removed that and plugged the dongle directly into USB A and it continues to function perfectly, so I don't know whether it was that lead, or just re-initialising the wifi, but the problem has gone and I can still use the web interface to control the unit.

I'm now one very happy chappy as, for the first time, I have all my music (~3000 albums) in one place and playing perfectly!

Many thanks to you and to Fred.

Best regards

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Great news!

The B2 can be a bit fussy about WiFi and can spend a lot of time and resource trying to maintain a connection, which can cause some unexpected problems.
