First question: I have ripped loads of cd's, and it would be really nice to listen to them. However I can't connect via Bluetooth or Sonos, the two things I want to use. When I scan for my bluetooth speaker I get nothing. Tried via menu and iu interface. I have tried a couple of speakers all to no avail. The speaker can be seen from other devices. The Brennan shows an internet connection and Bluetooth Ready. This is all a lot less intuitive than I was hoping when I purchased it.
I have tried resetting bluetooth, turning the device on and off etc. Will post another question re Sonos in due course. Would really like to listen to my cd's.

This is from the Bluetooth page of the Brennan website:

However, on the Latest Software page there is this encouraging news:

Thanks for your reply but I have only just received the B2 so would the file not already be on? I just don't understand why the B2 could see some devices originally but now sees nothing, when I try to search it just seems to loop round and round finding nothing.

Hi David,

Unfortunately we are unable to support Bluetooth out (send from the B2 to speakers or headphones), however the B2 works with most Bluetooth speakers.

What brand and model are the speakers?

Further update, when I delve through the menu I can see Bluetooth Out. When I select it it says Off. It says 'turn knob' but when I turn it nothing happens. Should this change to 'on'? All very confusing, help needed please although I'm probably being thick despite normally being OK on tech.

Normally, software updates only change the Brennan application code.  The improved Bluetooth capability is a change that was added to the Raspberry Pi operating system (OS) software.  That's why it has to be loaded manually.

The Bluetooth menu control is a toggle.  When it says "Bluetooth On" that's what will happen when you select that.  So after you have selected Bluetooth On, it will switch to say "Bluetooth Off" which is what will happen if you select it again.

In manufacturing, many times recent production software can lag behind new developments.  So I can't say for sure whether your new B2 would have the new core Bluetooth software upgrade or not.  On the WebUI, click the gear icon (aka cog) for Settings, and see what it displays for your version.  I'm not entirely sure, but I think the upgraded Bluetooth version is indicated by a B2B in front of the date.  Somebody please correct me if that's wrong.

Hi David,

The Bluetooth out function only works once you have paired a device with the B2 - you can then select if it is an 'input' (the B2 will receive music from the iPhone, etc) or an 'output' (the B2 will send music to the speaker, etc).

Try resetting your speakers - you usually have to press and hold a button (or combination of buttons) for a period of time - please check the manual or online.

I can connect it to my laptop but only by using the laptop to pair, not sure if this helps?

Hi, I'm confused regarding the update/upgrade process and hopefully someone can clear this up once and for all. I'm posting to the Bluetooth forum but this could easily be posted to Operating System forum or Latest Software.

On March 25, Daniel Taylor posted a screenshot of a September 25th 2019 update from the Brennan UK site under "Latest Software". It talks about downloading and updating the SD card with the Operating System for Bluetooth improvements. Does a person need to download that file or do all the over the network updates apply the latest changes? If over the network provides all the latest changes, updates, upgrades why post that under "Latest Software" on the site? Very confusing. Thank you.

Robert,
A few months ago, there was an update that involved special code for improved Bluetooth operation.  This change was to the core operating system software, and not the normallly updated application software.  For that reason, it requires rebuilding the OS software using the Etcher program to create a new SD card image.  You can continue to do the Web upgrades, but that alone will not get you the extra Bluetooth improvements.

If you refer back to my post of 25 Mar 2020, in the second picture, read the second paragraph.  If you find that text on the Latest Software page of the website, you can click on the links to get the file and the instructions.

I cannot guarantee that the new Bluetooth improvements will solve anyone's specific Bluetooth predicament.  But I imagine that in some cases it will.

I have updated to latest level of OS on Brennan and now when I do a Bluetooth scan it at least doesn't just search forever and find nothing. It does however come up with 8 (null) devices and the following

Refresh Paired Devices
Any ideas please?

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

When you check the 'stat's' does it show B2 or B2B as the prefix - B2B being the more recent updated Bluetooth software?

Try resetting your Bluetooth speaker/s - you normally have to press a button or combination of buttons for a period of time - check the manual or online for how to do this - put the speaker in Discovery mode and try Scan Bluetooth on the B2 again.
