Hi Paul,

Is it possible to upgrade the wifi stick antenna on the B2 to improve bandwidth? I am specifically interested to improve reliability of internet radio signals, which work well on my wireless laptop computer. I get lots of drops on the B2.
There is a simple stick antenna much like the one that came with the B2 except that it is that is vertically oriented and may improve wifi stability. Others are more complicated. Will I need to load drivers for simple  replacements and is that possible?

Finally, what is the use case of the small dongle tat also came with the B2?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

Paul has posted this advice in response to a similar query previously

Move the dongle from USB A to USB C - power off first
Fit the dongle onto a short USB extension cable and re-position
Replace the dongle with an RT5370 type with built-in antenna - an example here - link -

The small dongle, that says CSR 4.0 on it, is for Bluetooth.

You won't need any extra driver for a replacement WiFi dongle that will work on the B2.

Hi Jim,

Only compatible WiFi dongles will work with the B2. This rules out any that require you to load driver software. The one in the link above from Amazon has the RT5370 chip set onboard and works well. The antenna on that one can be rotated 360 degrees. I did read somewhere that an angle of 45 degrees gives the best reception.

Have you checked the WiFi signal at the B2 - use the front control to go to Settings >> Maintenance >> WiFi Strength - needs needs to be around the -50dBm mark (-40dBm is stronger and -60dBm is weaker) for a reliable connection.

This is all very valuable help! Thank you all!  New here though I do search forums first, but sorry if my question was redundant.

Best, Jim
