BB1 blue tooth

Hi. I am new to this group so apologise if this has been asked many times. Is it possible to Bluetooth to a separate speaker via some sort of dongle

 Yes.  A short little Bluetooth dongle was included with my B2.  I don't know for sure if that is just for receiving Bluetooth signals, or if it's intended for transmitting as well.  Brennan says on its website that although the Bluetooth transmit capability has been left in, it is not officially supported.

You should try it with whatever dongle you have.  If it doesn't work with your Bluetooth speaker, there are alternatives.  Some of the folks here have had good performance with a separate Bluetooth transmitter into which they connect either the B2's analog or digital output.

Another option is to get the Bluetooth core update for the B2's Raspberry Pi operating system from the Latest Software page on the Brennan website and build yourself a new SD card.  The instructions are on the Techy Stuff page.

Oops, sorry I didn't absorb that fact that you have a BB1.  I don't think Bluetooth transmission is officially supported on the BB1 either.

Bluetooth out - send music from the BB1 to another device (Bluetooth speaker for example) has not been implemented yet. Please watch the 'Latest Software page - link - on the website for updates.

There are various bluetooth transmitters eg Avantree Oasis that can I think be plugged into a headphone socket. Has anyone successfully done this with a BB1. I have connected wired headphones via a Sabrent USB External Stereo Sound Adapter. But it would be great to go "truly wireless" and to listen to my BB1 through my AirPods

Currently you would need to use the Sabrent DAC and connect it to a Bluetooth transmitter.
