Lately, I've seen mention of the fact that the Bluetooth dongle has CSR 5.0 written on it.  My dongle says CSR 4.0.  Does 5.0 mean that it is a newer protocol?  If so, does it support Apt-X?  What limitations are there on finding a new one?

Hi Daniel,

The Bluetooth CSR 5.0 contains additional new capabilities but the crux is that these new features require Linux 5 to make use of them.  The B2B software runs on Linux 4 so you won't see any new features because of this.  The situation is that the CSR 5 devices are backwards compatible with CSR 4 devices, but will operate at CSR 4 functionality levels.  CSR 5 devices are probably being supplied now because production of CSR 4 devices will now be tailing off.

I'll have to look at the situation with regard to Apt-X.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi All,

The aptX encoder software is loaded onto the Bluetooth device at the time of manufacture and requires the manufacturer to be licensed to use it. For aptX to work both devices - the transmitter and the receiver - must be aptX enabled.

Peter is correct in what he says about availability of CSR4.0 parts so we are shipping CSR5.0 dongles but these will be working at CSR4.0 spec.
