Hi
My wife and I are about to buy a B2. We are both in our 70's and complete technophobes.
We want to put our fairly large collection of CDs onto the Brennan which will be in our living room with it's supplied speakers.
My questions are, can we have a bluetooth speaker or speakers in the kitchen, next room, so that my wife can listen to her music while cooking.?
Can anyone recommend speakers that will work with the Brennan and are reasonably easy to set up.?
I really would appreciate answers in as plain English as possible, I have trawled through the Forum and found some answers that seem to apply, but are too technical for me.

Hi Pete
I use Thonet and Vanger Kurbis Bluetooth speakers - work well with the B2 although I have to say that I have them in the same room some 4 metres away. Quality is excellent and the speakers have volume/bass/treble controls so well controllable.
Could not say whether they would work from an adjacent room, but will give it a test for you if you like

Pete,
I believe the maximum range of most ordinary Bluetooth devices (including the dongle for the b2) is 10m (about 33 feet). But this is reduced when the signal has to pass through obstacles and the nature of the obstacles affects how much the range of the signal is reduced. Some walls present little problem but my fridge blocks the signal once I pass it. Such things are difficult to predict. A Bluetooth extender has been discussed on this forum but I haven't experimented yet. If you happen to have any bluetooth headphones (or know someone who does) you could temporarily pair them with the b2 and experiment before committing to buying speakers which might not work.

Many thanks to Spike and David for their replies.
The position of the speakers would just be the other side of a single block wall from the B2, so I think I will give it a try.

I have a Bose SoundLink Mini. It works fine going through one wall as long it's no more than 6 metres away. After that it begins to break-up.

Tony.  Thanks, that's helpful. Our Brennan has been ordered so I'll start hunting for the speakers. Pete

Hi Peter,

The Ruark MR1's link are very good, albeit a bit expensive....

Something to consider.

Bluetooth speakers are generally pretty good (I use a Bluetooth connection as part of my B2 setup) but they can sometimes loose connection and you get the odd breakup in music due to interference. If the speakers are going to be in the same room as the B2 then an old school wired connection is likely to be simpler to set up and easier to live with.

In your case you want them so your wife can listen to her music in the kitchen. I assume this means you want to have a set of speakers in the kitchen and a set of speaker in the room with the B2 in it. The big question here is will she want to listen to the same music as you are listing to in another room? If you are happy to have the same music piped to more than one location then the Bluetooth speakers should work. If however you both want to listen to different music stored on the B2 at the same time then the Bluetooth will not allow that and you must instead use something like the Sonos system.

Jasper.

Thanks to everyone who replied. We got the B2 yesterday and are very impressed. We are currently debating whether to go for Bluetooth speakers or a very basic Sonos system which does seem to have the advantage of a reliable connection and future expandability.

Hello Peter

If it was my choice - and I apologise I haven't read the full thread so I don't know all your requirements - I would go for Sonos.
