HI - if I manage to connect a pair of passive (i.e. not wifi) speakers to wifi, will the B2 see them?

The B2 does not send audio over any network, neither wired nor wireless. Sonos speakers are a special case, for which special programming has been done.

Sonos speakers, of which there is much discussion, use the B2 as a network storage device and pull audio *files* from the B2's hard disk. The B2 is not "playing" the files and sending the music: the Sonos speakers do all that on their own.

If you connect your passive speakers to some intelligent device that can use a networked drive and get the files, then play them through those speakers, that can be made to work. But the B2 won't know about those speakers, it will just be a networked drive for the other device.

Mark gave probably the best answer.  But I'm curious about your question.  If I read it right, you said you want to connect a pair of passive speakers to WiFi.  How do you plan to do that?  Certainly there must be some other device between your non-WiFi speakers and the WiFi network.

Besides Mark's direct answer to the question you seem to be asking, I'm concerned that you may have something else entirely in mind.  Just checking.

Hi dd.r...,

If you connect a pair of passive speakers to the red and black terminals (4mm banana plugs) on the B2, it will play to them without you having to change any settings or select anything - except turning the volume up.
