Hi Brennan Forum

Sorry, me again!

Shortcut to the answer....
How do you rename artist for an individual track on a compilation album.
Can you do this in the Web UI or only on the B2?

Apologies for all the questions!
Kind regards
Dave

Hi Dave,

The B2 currently does not display the track artist in the UI only the album artist, which for a compilation would be "Various Artists" or similar.
I get round this by using 3rd party software to rip my CDs on my PC and uploading the tracks to the B2.
I use Exact Audio Copy (EAC) for this. (other software is available !)

EAC allows you to customise the file name of the track so I include the track artist in the name of the file so that is displays when I play it on the B2.

e.g. 02 Handbags and Gladrags [Stereophonics].flac

EAC does create a metadata tag for the artist on each track of an album so it is there if future B2 software versions are able to retrieve the tag info and display it.

The screenshot attached may help with what I describe.

High Dave C. If you have already ripped it to the B2, you can do there (well definitely on the original) UI.
In the tracks window (bottom right). Left-click on the track you want to rename (on the track name not the play triangle). A rename pop up box will appear and you can enter what you want to call it ie. 01 - song name - artist name  Then click ok and the track should be the new info.

I have also used MusicBrainz Picard software to rename tracks using its ACOUSTID technology. You can select a whole folder/album at once so If you have lots to rename its a big time saver.
Happy to describe further if interested.
To rename in situ on the B2 you have to enable NAS on the B2 and map the B2 HDD on the device running Picard

Hi JFBUK,

If you can post some instructions that would be great.

Hi Paul,

I have put together some instructions. As always with such things because of my familiarity with how I use the software I may have made some unconscious assumptions so please come back for clarification if necessary.

I have attached word document and PDF versions

The instructions cover using the software on a Windows PC and processing files on a Windows HDD.

I have experimented with using the software on files in situ on the B2 HDD. It is much slower because of network lag and gives some inconsistent results

Viewing the updated files in Windows File Explorer and using NAS does show the file names updated but viewing in the Web UI gives inconsistent results even after doing a SCAN DISK.

If you need some examples of my results let me know  but my recommendation is to use the software externally to the B2 and then uploading to the B2.

Regards

John
