Hi

Does anyone have any experience setting up their brennan on a fixed IP address on a talk talk router?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

The set up for a 'reserved' IP address is all done in the router.  There is no set up to be done in the B2.

The way the system works is that when the Brennan boots up, it sends a request to the router for an IP address.  The router responds by sending an IP adress back to the Brennan.

I've just had a look on the web in the TalkTalk forum and it appears that Talktalk has removed the 'reserved IP address' functionality from their routers.  There are hundreds (if not thousands) of posts from users complaining about this.

That might have changed recently, so it would be worth checking your router model and seeing if this is the case or not.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi Mike,

If Talk Talk has removed the fixed IP function you could purchase a cheap WiFi extender, such as the TP Link TL-WR702N, plug that into the Talk Talk router using an Ethernet cable and connect the B2 to the TP Link. It appears you can fix the IP on the TP Link device.

Hi Mike

I have a Talk Talk router and this was quite straightforward. It can be anything, mine is 192.168.1.13 - the 13 is my bit, the rest has to look like shown. My router is the large black one and was shipped to me in November.

Go to My Internet Connection - click see internet settings
click Advanced Settings
Click on B2
There should be a place there called ip address in the tab of device info.Screenshot 2020-08-21 at 15.57.43.png

Hope this helps.

Hi Mike

As per the screen shot from Pickle, if the router is new you will need to wait until the firmware upgrades itself, mine was recently replaced and it took over a week until this occurred. When it has you will see the reservation option in the advanced settings.

Looks like I have a different router. This is what I see, but I did find an option for a static route. Does this look like the right option

Hi Mike,

No, 'Static Routes' is a totally different function from 'Static (or Reserved) IP addresses, so this won't work unfortunately.

To get around this problem, Paul's suggestion above to purchase a WiFi extender would be your best option.  Or perhaps you could get a new router of the same model as Pickles' router from TalkTalk. The TalkTalk forum has many people complaing about the lack of this feature, so perhaps if you threaten them with moving to another ISP who can give you this functionality then they might listen and send you out the new model.

I am with BT and have used the BT Homehubs and SmartHubs since about 2004 and these routers have always had 'Reserved IP address' capability.

Regards,
Peter.

Well after a lot of exploration, I found this under the LAN interface option and I have set this up and so far so good so fingers crossed this will work now.

THanks for all the advice everyone

Hi Mike,

It would be very helpful if you could post here the make and model of your router, in order to help other Talktalk users who are suffering from this issue.

Thanks,
Peter.
