A quick question for all the folks in the know. I have an NAS synology server and my Brennan b2. I've turned on the NAS on the Brennan and it does show in the Network on my mac. I can also see the music folder listed under the Brennan. It does show a separate IP address but the music never does show and eventually I get a message saying the operation can't be completed. The synology server does work no problem. I do have a large collection of FLAC music running 0ver 13000 flac files and about 470 gigs of music.

At first I thought it was because the MAC didn't like FLAC files but I moved them onto the Synology server and they played in their audio app no problem. The Synology also easily connects to my YAMAHA AV receiver which accesses it through the WIFI but try as i might it does not recognize the Brennan. Does the NAS use Bluetooth or WIFI? I do not use the Bluetooth toggle very often if at all. Could it be because of the amount of music and the upload times the Brennan out? Could it be that you can't have two NAS environments at the same time?

I love the Brennan and have set up some great playlists that I would like to access throughout the house not just the attached amp. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

There has been discussion on the forum about how to get a Mac to recognize the B2 as NAS.  Search for NAS and Mac.

NAS is done over WiFi or direct ethernet connection.  AFAIK, it does not work over Bluetooth.

Hi Ted,

There have been a few posts about accessing the B2 via a MAC computer on the Forum - this extracted from one - link -

I've been following this thread as I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to OS Catalina, 64 bit, losing access to all my 32 bit software and, coincidentally, to the Brennan B2.

What Peter says in his message of 31 March definitely worked for me:

Finder
Go
Connect to Server
Enter SMB://IP of B2
Add this as a favourite server once it works

I had to try twice - it doesn't always connect the first time.  Use the usual Brennan B2 name/password when challenged.

Thanks Dan

It does see and work flawlessly with the Synology NAS so I’m apt to look elsewhere. I appreciate your advice.

Hi Paul,

I purposefully haven’t upgraded to Catalina to avoid the 32bit issues. I’ve also tried the solution offered by Peter but that has failed as well. I can see the Brennanb2 in the network and I can connect using the login and it then displays the music folder but that is as far as it gets.

On a very upbeat note I turned on the DLNA and the NAS and my Yamaha receiver recognized it like a charm. That was important to me so I can now use the Brennan as the sole source of Hi Def music throughout the house.

Thanks so much for the advice and I will let you know if the music ever does reveal itself on the Mac.

Hi Ted,
When you used the term "Hi Def music" I wasn't sure if I should comment or not.  Sometimes people use that to just mean CD quality.  But sometimes they mean what is becoming more commonly referred to as Hi Res (higher bitrate) music.  The B2 is strictly CD quality (and of course lower quality MP3).  It attempts to down convert all Hi Res files to CD resolution (16/41).  And some Hi Res files are troublesome for the B2.  So it's best not to expect High Resolution quality from the B2 - it's not designed for that.

Hi Paul and Peter,

As usual I find myself in a position of speaking (or writing) too soon. It seems that after waiting the entire has now appeared so your solution has worked like a charm.

Thanks again for the solutions. This really is a terrific source for everything Brennan.

Hi Ted,

Yes, I've seen situations where it has taken up to 1 hour for a new SMB based device to become available on a given network, so it's alway worth a wait to see what happens.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi Dan,

I did have some Hi Res music I think at 24 bit but it wasn’t the majority so I guess it’s converted to the 16 bit because I haven’t experienced any issues as yet.

Thanks for all responses on these issues. It seems there is a fairly sharp learning curve to some of this but I’m not complaining. It’s giving me a chance to review all my music files and make sure they are the ones I want.

Much appreciated.
Ted
