Hi Paul

I see this is offline install.

I seem to be confused, could you tell me how to get this installed, it does not seem to be a "flash able" file.

Hi Fred

Download the file b2b.tar.gz to a USB stick, insert stick into USB C socket on the B2 , select Maintenance menu and select SW upgrade ... Upgrades the software from a USB stick in USB C. You need to get a file called b2.tar.gz from www.brennan.co.uk latest software.

I have got one called b2b.tar which has come down

Do I just copy this to an empty USB thumb drive?

Hi Guys,

If you are running 'B2' software, you must download a file named 'b2.tar.gz' to a USB stick.
If you are running 'B2B' software, you must download a file named 'b2b.tar.gz' to the USB stick.

Yuo cannot mix these up, if you do you will get a 'Failed' message when you attempt to run 'SW Upgrade'.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi Fred,

In answer to your question above, this is a 'B2B' version update.  You just copy this file to an empty USB stick and copy it exactly as it is.  DO NOT unzip it.  Then plug the USB stick into your B2 (which must be on 'B2B' version and run 'SW Upgrade'.

Regards,
Peter.

Thanks Peter

Is it a legitimate hope that this will become a "normal web upgrade" B2 software update in due course do you think?  Is Martin releasing this update as a trial do you think?  I think I would prefer to wait for the usual update method.

Tim,

As you are on B2 version you MUST either get a new card from Brennan or flash one yourself, I do not think the ever will be/can be a web upgrade step to go from B2 to B2B.

Be brave have a go at flashing a SD Card ( don't overwrite the B2 one you have, get a new (at least 8GB) one and have a go) :))

Thanks Fred

I think from Paul's recent post this upgrade is a "test/trial" with a B2 web upgrade to follow, hopefully.

Otherwise, I might indeed need to b brave!

Nope

Copied the downloaded file to a USB drive
a.JPG
shoved it in the B2 (USB C) then did a Maintenance > SW Upgrade
but after this and a save and reboot the Web UI still says
a.JPG

What am I doing wrong?

Possibly coz you've got other stuff on the flash drive, I'm sure instructions say it must be empty

Hi Guys,

Having other stuff on the USB drive won't matter; I've just used a USB stick with a 'b2Export' directory set on it and it worked perfectly.  The instructions do recommend that the USB stick is empty but that is just to help to avoid confusion if problems are encountered.

The most likely problem is that the filename 'b2b.tar.gz' has got modified by Windows for some reason.  In the window the filename is showing as 'b2b.tar' but that might just be a Windows display characteristic.

Regards,
Peter.

That was I was seeing, until I pulled the usb stick out and then plugged it back in to usb c (whilst the b2 was powered up) the screen then shows something like USB-C mounted, tried the update again and it worked.  now on 25th Feb. just testing it now (still having issues with the android app only showing the first 20 artists)

I am covered in chagrin!!

Schoolboy error!! Ho the shame !!

The USB thumb drive I used for the job (the one with the backups on it) !...... well of cause it was formatted "exFAT" wasn't it!
Changed to using a FAT32 formatted USB stick and I am pleased to say I have managed to load the 25th Feb 2021 B2B test software just fine using the Maintenance > SW Upgrade method.

Sorry for all the kerfuffle.

Fred.

Hi Fred,

We've all been there in some way or another!  Someone who never made a mistake never did anything!  Just add it to the log it as another check to make when diagnosing the situation.

Regards,
Peter.

Fred, Peter,  any word on the dreaded "sonos pairs" front?

Hi Tim,

I have updated my system using 25th Feb 2021 (I'm already on B2B) and have stereo pairs playing. First impressions are the B2 connects to Sonos faster and the web UI controls respond more quickly.

Also tried the new front panel feature - 'Pick Speaker' - once a Sonos speaker has been selected, the front panel controls are assigned to that Sonos. The front panel volume control adjusts the volume of the playing Sonos. The web UI also works.

Thanks Paul, sounds really encouraging.  Please pass on thanks to Martin for tackling this issue and a big thank you to John H for identifying the underlying technical issue.  I can't wait for the general release.  My sonos pairs problem seem worse than ever at the moment - I think they send the end is in sight!!

Best

Good morning John;  I was on Sonos Radio all yesterday as struggling to run a B2 Export all day (whole story elsewhere!) but I checked a number of times during the day and each time the Radio Logo popped up on the B2 UI for both my speaker sets and no "extra" speaker options listed.   I'm running a SonosNet with Boost hard-wired to my router than one stereo pair and one single OneSL.  Sad to say its a thrill to see  the logo come up on the B2 UI after the frustrations previously - but I've only had my Sonos a couple of weeks so discovery/connections problems very short-lived for me!

Connected again this morning and everything still working A1.  How's your set up today?

Hello all.

Following the general update today, I can confirm that so far so good on the Sonos Stereo Pairs front.  Thank you again John H and Martin.  This should make my experience so much better.

John H - I use SonosNet with a sonos boost hard hired to the router.  I then have one old Sonos one, one old Sonos three and a new Sonos One SL stereo pair.
