Hi to All

I’ve had poor broadband at home and in my street we’re not yet well connected with fibre.
It’s generally been adequate for using my B2 but I’m thinking of switching to a 4G/5G type of router which runs off the cellular network while I wait for fibre infrastructure to happen.

I’m  assuming  the B2 will use the Wi-Fi from this prospective 4G router without a problem but is there anything I should know? Any difference’s or potential problems?

Would be grateful if anybody could share their knowledge!

Many many thanks!

Regards

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

As I understand it your router has an 'inside' which deals with YOUR wifi and Ethernet links ie supporting a LAN,
And an 'outside' which deals with however you connect to the internet (via 5G or the ISP's cables) ie connecting to the WAN.

Thus while a 5G router may be different from an ISP's router, on the "inside" they should be identical, your B2 will not care which type of Router it is connecting to.

As fred.w said this is the wifi side of the router so should be no problem. I have a BB1 and I use it connected to a 4G Mifi in our caravan without any issues.  I use my phone also connected to the mifi  to control it.  There are a couple of small detail that you might want to check. Some of the smaller 4g/5g routers have a limit on the number of clients they support ( ie your PC, printer B2 etc )   these days its usually enough and should not be a problem.  Also again with the smaller routers the range is often shorter than some of the fixed routers.  Both of these comments really only apply to battery operated Mi-Fi devices. If your router is a mains powered unit it should be just like your home router and obviously might be faster to download track details etc.
