Hi Brennan Team,

I'm running the 'flac+mp3' option to create mp3 versions of my already created 'flac' files.  I have about 5600 flac files to convert.

I'm running on an 'early' model B2, using 'B2B Jul 1 2020' software.

The compression was running well, throughout yesterday and last night, when it just stopped this morning.  It did NOT crash, the process just stopped.  I tried to restart it using 'Compress now' and the process attempted to restart compession but then stopped again almost immediately.

From looking at 'b2db' file and finding the the latest 'mirror' file, I noticed that the next track to be processed had the title

10 - Ev`ry Time We Say Goodbye

The single quote mark in the title  looked slightly odd, so when I looked at it carefully it was a 'reverse single quote' mark.  I renamed the track to:

10 - Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye   --- (this is the normal single quote character)

I then ran 'Scan Disk' to rebuild the 'b2db' file, and used 'Compress now'.  The compression started up again and is now happily running.

So it looks like the 'reverse single quote' character caused my compression to stop.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi again,

I think that the character that is causing the problem is value Hex 60; Decimal 96.

Peter.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the feedback. I wonder where that 'reverse single quote' came from?

Hi Paul,

I don't know where it came from.  I do know that the CD (The Best of Long John Baldry) was ripped a few years ago before I purchased the B2, so it's nothing to do with the B2 or the CDDB that it uses.

I have found has three futher occurrences over the weekend of the same character stopping the compression.  Each time, I just edit the reverse quote to a normal quote, do a 'Scan Disk' and the compression just starts up again.

I'm now at track 1269 out of 5687 after running since 10:00am  02/07/2020, with a few stoppage due to the above problem.

As far as timings go, I have added this process into my 'Brennan Estimator' spreadsheet.   The process details are working out as follows:

Early model is running at 16.5 tracks per hour or 400 tracks per 24 hours.
Later model seems to run at about 20 tracks per hour or 480 tracks per 24 hours (but subject to more testing).

Regards,
Peter.
