Sonos music library updating question

When I update a music library through the Sonos app, the updated library adds all the new music.  But if, on the B2 web UI, I have consolidated under one spelling all the music from one artist, the Sonos app doesn't track the consolidation.  For example, I had albums under "B.B. King" (no space between the Bs) and under "B. B. King" (one space between the Bs).  When I eliminate the space between the Bs in the artist name field, it moves all the albums into the artist folder for the no-space B.B.  The Sonos app doesn't reflect that change when I do an update.  It keeps both original artist names, so there are two B.B. King folders instead of just one.

Another example: I used to put compilation albums under the "artist" name "Various Artists."  That was unwieldy, so I created a number of genre-specific artist folders, like "Various Artists - Folk."  (That could get unwieldy, too, but it hasn't for me so far.)  Updating the music library through the Sonos app doesn't reflect this change, so there is only one "Various Artists" folder instead of the 5 or 6 I created on the web UI.

Anyone know how I can get the Sonos app to mirror the web UI organization?  Thanks.

If your Sonos is looking at your B2 music through the B2's NAS, then if you change the content of the B2's music you need to get the Sonos App to "update" the music library before the changes to the B2 will be refected in the Sonos App.

If I understand the Sonos "library" concept and the B2 "folder" concept correctly, the Sonos library is organized using the metadata tags inside the files, and the B2 is organized by the names of the files and folders. These need to be kept in agreement if you wish both devices to display the same organization.

The B2 neither uses nor updates tags after files are created and loaded onto it.

The Sonos probably doesn't change the filenames or folder locations when it retags things (if it does).

You're going to have to "mesh" these two methods of identifying and organizing your music yourself.

Hi Mark,

It depends on how you approach it. I use the "Folders" option

Which seems to match the B2 file structure exactly.

I think tags are used for other options like "Artist", but I use the "Folders" as it DOES match the B2 UI.

The question is, what is Harlond57 using? The BB King" example implies the use of the "Artist" view, unlike your use of the "Folder" view.

I was using the Artist view, but now I know better.  Thanks everyone.
