I am having trouble loading my music to my Baby Brennan from the USB stick.
Started by ripping all my CD's to MP3 format, and added a few WAV downloads. The WAV files saved but not the MP3's. So I ripped all the CD's again as WAV files, but they still won't download. I get to the point where I push the Knob to start the Save/Download from the USB stick and nothing happens.
I just desperately want my BB1 to work. Help.

My first thought was that maybe the BB1 is full.  How many files have you already loaded?  When you look at the status in the WebUI, how much space does it say is still available?

Hi Daniel, I have only been able to load 12 WAV files, which were downloads, nothing else at all. I also bought the 125gb version, so should be loads of space.

Hi,

Can you confirm you are following these instructions to load from your USB drive ?

What size is the USB drive ?
Where did you format it and did you format it as FAT32?
When you look at the contents of the USB drive on a computer does everything look as it should ?

Hi John,

Yes I am doing exactly that [following the instructions above] but it just doesn't react when I press the knob.
USB is in the format FAT32 its size is 64GB. [Brennan is capacity is 128GB]
Yes it all looks as it should the Music folder filled with Artist Folders in turn filled with Album Folders in turn filled with Tracks as WAV Files.
The total memory for used for the Music on the USB is 23.3GB, consisting of 4888 Track files in 524 folders.

Hi Erica,

If I remember correctly, after highlighting the folder you want to upload, you press NEXT and get an 'Import Files' message. Press the control knob to start the process.

The MP3 files may have got stored under 'Unknown' artist of the file structure wasn't Artist > Album > Tracks.

Hi Erica,

I have played around with this query and have now got a reliable method to do a bulk transfer to a BB1.

In this example, I have loaded 6 artists, 16 albums and 219 tracks with a mix of wav, flac and mp3 tracks.

So, here goes:  (the SS term  in some of the steps refers to the attached screenshots)  I had to split the message into two parts because Google Forum was reporting 'message too long', so I split the attachments into two sections.

1. Format a suitably sized USB stick to 'FAT32' if not already done.
2. In the USB top directory create a folder named 'music' (without the quotes) See SS1.
3. Copy your music collection into the 'music' folder in the format of Artist/Album/Tracks.  See SS2 and SS3.
4. Insert USB stick into BB1.
5. In the 'Main Menu' scroll down to 'USB Functions' and click on this.
6. In 'USB Functions, select 'Browse USB A' and click on this.
7. In 'Browse USB A' menu, rotate knob to highlight 'music' folder. See SS5.
8. With 'music' folder highlighted, press the 'Next' button.
9. Message 'Import Files - Are You Sure?' is displayed. See SS6.
10. Press knob down to confirm this.

The Import will now start and should run to completion. See SS7 and SS8.

List of Screenshots

SS1 - Preparing the USB stick for initial use.
SS2 - Music directory showing artist folders
SS3 - An artist folder showing album sub folders.
SS4 - Windows 'Properties' showing the folder and file count on the USB stick.
SS5 - Shows 'music' folder highlighted with yellow border.
SS6 - Shows 'Import Files - Are You Sure?' message.
SS7 - Shows Import running.
SS8 - Shows 'Stats' screen with the files loaded with a count of the different file types.

Regards,
Peter.

Hi All,

Finally found the time after a really busy month to follow your instructions.

All goes well until I have to press the knob to confirm the Import of Files, then absolutely nothing happens.

Any further suggestions or is it broken before I have even used it?

Hi Erica,

So all is OK up to step 10?

What's on the USB stick? The files need to be arranged like this -

music - a folder - must only contain Artist folders
Artist #1 - a folder - must only contain Albums folders
Album #1 - a folder containing the Tracks
                                     Track #1 - a file - e.g. Here comes the Sun.mp3
                                     Track #2
                                     etc
                     Album #2
                                     etc
         Artist #2

Also the BB1 will only play WAV (as found on a CD), FLAC, MP3 and M4A type files.

Hi Erica,

I've plugged your stats into my 'Brennan Estimator' spreadsheet and have found that the music data volumes do not add up.

4888 tracks in 'WAV' format would require approximately 180GB of space, and your USB stick is only 64GB.

To fit this number of tracks onto a 64GB stick would require mp3/256Kb compression or lower.

I'm wondering if your USB stick is a fake unit, that would go a long way to explaining why you are having these problems.  Websites such as Amazon and eBay are awash with these fake sticks and quite a number of users in this forum have fallen victim of these.

I have done a number of bulk transfers via a USB stick to my two BB1 units and the instructions posted above have worked as expected every time.

We covered the topic of fake sticks in the link below, and this includes how to test for bad/ faulty USB sticks.

Regards,
Peter.
