I am considering upgrading my JB7 to a B2. I have backed up my music (consisting of a mix of CDs and LPs) onto a USB.  If I transfer the music from that USB to a new Brennan B2, will they appear on the new B2 Brennan in the same order as on my JB7 (the order in which the music was loaded in the first place) or will the new B2 Brennan re-index the music itself?

First, you say " onto a USB ", if this is a USB stick and a recent purchase, I hope it is not a fake. We have had a lot of trouble with fake sticks recently on this forum.

There is a specific B2 command option for importing music from a JB7, but I am not sure that 'order of loading' has any meaningful context in terms of the B2. The B2 does indeed re-index its music holdings and the index does not use order of loading as a data field.

Hi ngwla..,

The direct answer is that when you use the 'Backup music' function from the JB7 to a USB device, then the music albums are backed up to that USB device in the order that they were originally loaded (with a few exceptions where albums were deleted).

When you subsequently use the 'Restore' function to a B2, those albums will be restored in that same order of the JB7.  However, the B2 has two options available when listing artists and albums on a B2 and those are either 'sorted' or 'unsorted'.  When you use 'unsorted', the display will be the USB load order.  When you use 'sorted', then the display will be in alphabetic order.

Regards,
Peter.

Thank you Fred and Peter. My USB stick is 100% reliable having been purchased from a reliable sourse and tested since. Most useful to learn of the implications of Sorted/unsorted.

Most of my music started life on my JB7. I have never had any problems playing music from the JB7 which has all WAV files. When I got my B2 I loaded it from a JB7 backup, everything seemed to be OK. However I mostly use the B2 in random play mode and from time to time I have a track that has a 'chirp' on the end. I strongly suspect that it is always the same tracks that do this but I have never fully investigated this as the B2 is on the other side of the room and in any case has moved on to another tune!
I have just bought a BB1 and used a 'B2 only' backup to load the BB1 in stages, converting to MP3 in batches. Now that I start to play music from the BB1 I find that it too has 'chirps' at the end of some tracks. Being closer to hand I have re-played the faulty track and find that the 'chirp' is still there.
