I have a JB7 and a B2 , one of which is now redundant so I wish to repurpose one of them to drive a single speaker ( there is no room in the intended location for two speakers so any idea of stereo is pointless ).  Suggestions of the best way to achieve this would be appreciated. I am willing and able to modify the internal hardware if necessary.

Hmm!
Hi xb.

Are you aware that the B2 will both drive Bluetooth speakers AND that it will also drive Sonos speakers (both wirelessly)
If your "intended location" is in the same WiFi network location as that to which your B2 is connected, then your B2 could both drive your "current" speakers and supply music to a speaker in your "intended location" .

Obviously if your "intended location" is elsewhere like a boat, or RV, then this would not be possible. However if this is the case and the "intended location"  is not covered by WiFi, then the B2, via its analogue (headphone) output, could drive a powered speaker or you could connect a Bluetooth speaker to it.

The JB7 is less flexible in what you can do with it.

Fred, thank you for replying. I was aware of all this but I already have a suitable dumb unpowered speaker I would like to use. It just seems a waste to add a lot of electronics when all that is required is a wire link in the right place in the internal circuit.  Incidentally the Quad 44 preamp I am working on for a friend has a front panel switch to make the link to give mono output.  Quad also supply a complete circuit diagram in the service manual.

Hi kb.xt,

Nothing easy springs to mind other than two small speakers....

I was thinking of doing the equivalent for speaker level outputs as an external solution.   Given the JB7 uses a bridge amplifier it makes it more complex but still possible.
Does the B2 also use a bridge amplifier?

Hi,

I don't know what connections your speaker has  but have you thought of Bluetooth enabling your speaker assuming the Brennan and the speaker are in proximity?

I have successfully output from the B2 over Bluetooth to headphones using one of these -

Amazon UK shows them unavailable at the moment but there are alternatives

I just plugged the headphone jack into the jack connection on the back of this device and paired it with the B2

I use a similar set of Bluetooth gizmos to send music from my receiver to my wired headphones.  Works quite well, and eliminates the long cord across the floor.  Sounds like a good solution for the current scenario.

On the B2, both positive and negative (i.e., red and black) speaker terminals are driven. There is no common ground, and the two channels should not be connected together.

Yes the amplifier outputs on the B2 are bridged as Mark describes.
