Hi. I've had a problem with DB Lookup and it is continuing despite loading the latest 30th Sept update.

I tried to rip a CDR of a Radio concert that a friend gave me. My b2 froze for over a minute with 'DB Lookup' displayed. Eventually the HDD stopped rotating but still it was frozen. Holding in Play/Stop and then pressing Eject repeatedly eventually changed the display to 'Restarting' and then Eject worked and all is good again.

The problem appears to concern a completely unrecognisable CD, perhaps compounded by the fact that it's a CDR and might not be easy to read. I don't know if it is playable because my b2 freezes before I can select 'Play CD'. Either way, it shouldn't freeze like this.

The 30th Sept update includes the 17th Sept update which 'fixed' the Musicbrainz problem. Methinks a little more work needed here please.

All the best, Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks for that. I'll pass this on to Martin as I know he had done some work on this area recently. Evidently MusicBrainz has some sort of 'request limit' mechanism which returns an error message if too many requests are received and the B2 didn't know what to do, so just waited for a title to be returned. Might be related.

Thanks Paul.

I tried it again this morning with the same CDR. After 30 seconds of displaying 'DB Lookup', the CD stopped spinning and my b2 just sat there locked up. After a minute & a half, nothing had changed and no button presses on any of the buttons would change that. Eventually holding in 'Play/Stop' for over 15 seconds a couple of times produced 'Saving' on the screen and I was able to coax my b2 back to life with no damage done.

If  the DB Lookup had a maximum 15 or 20 second time out, after which it simply offered 'Album xxxx' by 'Unknown' as the only rip option (as it used to do), at least I could rip or simply play the CD. As things are, I can't get beyond the 'DB Lookup' screen - prior to this screen appearing, pressing 'Play' plays the HDD only.

It's just a minor irritation and I'll await an update. Thanks. Andy
