Loading My old JB7 now fitted with new SSD. Plus comment on CDDB supplied by Brennan.

Well, over the past several weeks I have added over 600 CD albums to my old JB7 now fitted with new SSD 480GB.

I am an admirer of the Brennan JB7 and B2, going back years.  I have one JB7 and two B2s.

There is a saying among technical people that "data are gold".  However, if I was working again in business I would be ashamed if the data CDDB I purchased from Brennan, and recommended for customers was anything to do with me or my company.

Here is a list of some of the errors/garbage/dross one has to work with and correct before the album listings on my particular JB7 will be of any use:

What's more, many of the missing albums (about 10% of total) are well know, big-selling or classics in the various music genres.

You do indeed have to be devoted and loyal to stick with its products over so many years.

How about some better attempts and smarter people somewhere in the chain for a start.

Hi Ian

Humbly, I think you are miss-representing the situation,

Brennan do not own and are not responsible for CDDB databases or their quality. 

If these are inadequate it is because tech giants have 'acquired' the main databases, placing them behind a paywall that is out of the reach of small businesses.

Brennan therefore have to link to open source equivalent solutions which are user  generated and therefore contain some errors.

Wow! It's a jungle out there.  Dodgy batches of CD players and poor quality CDDB databases!

I was a data quality controller, then manager for decades.  Maybe a good idea for certain companies to employ a few of them, or is it deemed uneconomical, nowadays?

Could become a false economy in the long run?

Always suspected the bean counters would win.
