Hi there,

I have found a pair of these Klipsch R-51M speakers for sale that look as if they would be great passed through an amplifier. But I don't know how they perform when plugged directly into the B2. They are the bookshelf speakers. Klipsch R-51M
Any thoughts or experience with these would be appreciated.

Cheers

Steven

Thanks Matthew , I thought they would sound good hooked up to an amp.

I don't have an amp for the Brennan. Is there any chance that you have tried (or could try) to hook the speakers up directly to the BB2 to see what the sound quality is like?

Thanks

Steven

Hi Steve, the Brennan B2 has an amp built in! Just connect the Klipsch speakers to the speaker outputs on the rear panel. Unless I'm missing something ...

I don't think Steven has bought the speakers yet.  He wants to know how good they'll sound on the B2 before he lays out his cash.

Hi Steven

No idea how they sound, but the specs would seem they are ideal for the B2, have a look at the speaker leads on the B2 website as the connections on the B2 are a bit tight. If you do buy them let us all know how they sound!

I use the R-51M speakers powered by the B2 internal amp and they sound great to me. The Klipsch design gives a distinctive sound which to those that like it call bright and those who don't call harsh. For the price, especially when they go on sale, I think the R-51M are an incredible value. With that being said my B2 is also connected to an external amp that routes to large floor speakers that I use when listening to music that needs the bass a small speaker can't deliver.

Having tried the speakers with the BB2, I will have to say that they are adequate. No big bass. I am by no means an audiophile. The BB2’s built in amp will fill a study with nice sound with the R-51s, however I would not crank it up loud.
Just my thoughts. Hope this helps.

Thanks to all for the responses, and to Matthew for specially hooking them up to try out directly from the Brennan.

I am just now trying out a set that are just below (the R-41M) and so far I think they will be adequate/okay, considering the limitations. I am planning to get the R-51M set on airmiles, so there is no return possible, which is why I wanted to hear of any who had experience. As suggested I can always connect the Brennan up through my main system if I want a fuller sound, but these are only for the kitchen/eating area for the main part.

Cheers!

Steven, the R-51Ms are a great speaker and a good value. For where you are going to use them they should be very nice.  I’m relatively new to the B2, but I’m enjoying it immensely. Also have you considered using a good Bluetooth speaker for this area? I’m sure you could get some quality recommendations from the forum.

I have a Bose Wave (bluetooth)  but I'd rather stay with the conventional. I can see the advantages, but I don't think the quality is the same and honestly, navigating around all the options out there without being able to try them out is a daunting prospect. These being offered on Airmiles seem what will fit the bill for this situation. I also have the Bose mini bluetooth system with bluetooth capability. I am totally sick of the Bose as the CD mechanism doesn't last. I have had it replaced 4 times and before long each time the CD play starts skipping again. Overpriced radio alarm clock! I play a lot of CDs, so the storage in the Brennan B2 solves that for me. With well over 1000 CDs that gives me instant access (and I have spent the last month - almost full time - ripping CDs!). Almost finished.
Thanks Matthew
Steve

Steve,
I know what you mean about loading the cds, it took almost 4 days just using a usb drive. For some reason the B2 would only take 128 gb at a time. I have a great cd ripper on my PC that rips directly to flac in an average of 4 minutes, and I store everything on 2 external hard drives. (I learned a valuable lesson when 1 failed and I didn't have a backup, 2200 cds, Luckily I had given a copy to my brother, who made me a copy in return) Good luck with your set up and I have enjoyed talking (typing?) to you. Happy listening.
