Today when I turned on the B2 after hardwiring into router with Powerline Extender the faceplate scroll down readout says  NO CD MECHANISM. B2 will not accept a cd for playing or ripping. The powerline did in fact solve my wifi connectivity issues.

I'll admit that I have not gone back and read all of your previous thread.  So I don't know if you've had occasion to open the B2 at all.  I wonder because it sounds like the connection to the CD mech may have come loose.

Hi Michael,

It sounds like the CD drive has gone faulty.  However it would be worth trying from the front panel: 'Settings' --> 'Maintenance'  --> 'Advanced' --> 'Reset CD'

Regards,
Peter.

Hi  Mr,

Dont panic, when you opened the back to install the Ethernet connector you inadvetently pulled the tray out too far and dislodged the CD connector.
Easily fixed.

Unplug the power, open the back again (top 2 screws) and if you look under the main tray you will see the CD connector hanging from wires connected to the tray.  This connector simply plugs into a socket at the back of the CD. Its a bit fiddly but square it up and gently push it into
The socket and make sure it is firmly seated. Then close up the back and you will be good to go.

Thanks Fred  -  I reestablished the connection. A bit tricky. The ethernet connection is not what I would call elegant. Very clumsy. The ethernet cable needs to bend at an acute angle to run through the dedicated hole in the back panel. Questionable design.   Have you ever tried a USB to Ethernet cable?? Will that work?  Michael

Hi Michael,

Did you use a "standard" Ethernet cable or a low profile (thin) type? I have used a low profile cable and is easy to bend as needed plus it works a treat.

Alot of us also use a "whiptail" connector

out of the back of the B2. This means you do not have to go in to the back again if you need to move the unit.

Unfortunately there is no room at the back of the B2 to extend the Raspberry Pi's Ethernet Port to the back of the B2, or I am sure Martin would have done it.
HOWEVER a Wired Ethernet connection can also be made using one of the B2's USB ports and an USB Ethernet dongle. This solutions requires you to load the correct Ethernet drivers from the Front menu control system.

Thanks Fred  -  2 things to try. (1) A flat wire whip tail for direct ethernet connection.  (2) A usb to ethernet dongle and load the proper driver.  I would also be interested in knowing what new wifi dongle was acquired by our friend from the other conversation.  Michael
