Hi All

I am uploading 16K of music files to the B2 using the WebUI bulk upload.  It seems like after a few hundred files, it stops suddenly ..I restart the upload, but it tens to happen again.

Any suggestions

Thanks
Todd

We've heard similar things reported before.  The general concensus is that it's best to upload in small batches.

I'm afraid that was a non-helpful answer.  However, it occurs to me to ask is the top of the unit getting quite warm?  I imagine overheating could be a possibility when the processor is working hard for an extended time.  We have had reports of overheating, especially if there are things stacked on top of the unit, blocking the ventilation holes.

Hi Todd,

The collective experience is to upload smaller batches or to use a USB drive to transfer the Tracks.

If your B2 is connected over WiFi, you should check the signal strength at the B2. Use the front control to go to Settings >> Maintenance >> select 'WiFi Strength'. It needs to be around -50dBm (-40dBm is a stronger signal and -60dBm a weaker one) for reliable operation.

I just discovered this message from Todd in my private email:

"Thanks.
No overheating noticed
1. About 2 months ago, I uploaded a "salvaged" Itunes Music File to the B2 (around 10K files). The old IPOD was totally corrupted.   This week, I found a more intact Itunes Music file on my NAS, and used MP3tag to edit the files and then upload it to my USB drive.  Could it be that the current Upload notices the presence of the old upload and is skipping files?
2. How can I upload in batches?  The upload function seems to let me select Old Itunes Music as a whole, but not separate batches.
Sorry for all the questions
Todd"

Please post your comments here in the thread you started so that all may follow along.  Use the Reply All option at the bottom of the page.

I'm not completely sure about whether Upload will skip files.  If the folder and file names are exactly the same, it might skip them.  Best to delete the old, doubtful files and do a fresh upload of the new ones.

One way to upload in smaller batches would be to provide one Artist folder at a time.

BTW, your music files should be arranged as Artist folder containly only Album folders containing only track files and artwork:
Artist\Album\tracks

Hi Todd,

If you suspect there are issues with the first upload (".... totally corrupted"), I would suggest formatting the B2's hard drive and starting over.

These instructions from Peter Lowham for formatting the drive -

1.  From the front panel, select 'Settings' --> 'Maintenance' --> 'Stop NAS'

2.  Select 'Settings' --> 'Maintenance' --> 'Use SD'

3.  Power the B2 down, wait 30 seconds and power up.  (This step is important)

4.  Select 'Settings' --> 'Maintenance' --> 'Advanced' --> 'Format HDD'

5.  When the format has completed select 'Settings' --> 'Maintenance' --> 'Use HDD'

6.  Select 'Settings' --> 'Maintenance' --> 'Start NAS'

Then your B2 will be ready to do the 'Import', all being well. If you are not using NAS, skip step 6.
