I waved a white game bag back and forth overhead until those little orange dots seemed to take notice and began descending back into the valley below. I was hunting with our MeatEater Community Coordinator Cory Calkins and my buddies Mike and Jenna from back East. Cory and Mike had gone after the bear as Jenna and I hung back, using a game bag and hand signals to help guide their stalk.

Break the IceJenna and I ended up killing that bear in the final minutes of shooting light. It was a dry sow, about 5 1/2 feet and 180 pounds. While I wish that Jenna and Mike could have ended their trip with a bear of their own, they seemed more than satisfied with the outcome.

Spotting/Stalking
So, now we come to your most likely method to hunting, spotting and stalking. In the spring, bears will follow the snowline. This is because flowers and tender grass are popping out as the snow recedes uphill as it thaws out.

Sakura blooms are enhanced with a springtime bouquet of white rose, peony, and pink magnolia. Subtly sweet matcha mochi with notes of green tea and mochiko rice flour. Pink peppercorn awakens the earthiness of the white musk and vetiver base. This fresh floral feels both ethereal and clean.

Oil Rollers are packaged in a glass bottle, with a roller ball applicator, black plastic lid, and smear resistant label. Eau de Parfums are packaged in a glass bottle, with a black plastic sprayer, black lid and smear resistant label. Bottle sizes indicate the approximate volume, as the weight of different fragrance components naturally varies.

Isopropyl Myristate (IPM) is a dry oil spray that we use for perfume sprays outside of the contiguous USA. It is safe to ship internationally, whereas traditional EDP (perfumer's alcohol) is not. The strength, longevity and wear of IPM is very similar to an EDP.

Spring black stem and leaf spot is caused by the fungus Phoma medicaginis, and is among the most devastating alfalfa diseases. Spring black stem and leaf spot decreases yield, forage quality, seed weight, and root mass, and reduces stand survival. Symptoms first appear on lower leaves, but progress up the plant over time. Small, dark lesions (tarspots) enlarge and coalesce, eventually causing leaf yellowing and defoliation. Leaves may be stunted and deformed, while petioles can develop lesions and become girdled. Stems initially show small, sunken dark spots that may enlarge to cover large portions of the stem. The crown and roots may also show disease symptoms.

Plant certified seed and rotate to non-host crops to reduce P. medicaginis inoculum. Consider early harvest to reduce leaf loss if spring black stem and leaf spot is severe. Fungicides are registered for spring black stem and leaf spot, but must be applied before symptoms occur.

Garden: This young farmer inherited his family farm and transitioned to organic farming methods 13 years ago. He processes his crops of the Four Seasons Spring cultivar as lightly oxidized, unroasted Oolong, as well as Black Tea and White Tea. The combination of organic raw produce and local expertise from this historical tea growing region offer consistent quality specialty teas year-round.

Our friend lives in the Songboling tea producing region, and his home factory is equipped for Black Tea processing, which was built by his grandfather, but was dormant for many years before this new development. He has repurposed his inherited factory for the production of naturally cultivated Black Tea from a nearby region. He processes his Black Tea himself, using his own factory, which reduces cost and allows him to market it at competitive prices. This also is the kind of sustainable business approach that we are committed to supporting in the local industry. His produce of "small leaf type" Oolong from his own organic farm is processed by a nearby modern tea factory designed to make Green Oolong, in the fashion of High Mountain Oolong.

Cold Brew: Use 5g of tea per liter of water. Brew tea at room temperature for 2-3 hours, and enjoy. Or you can put your cold brew bottle in the fridge to brew overnight and be ready to drink the next day.

The leaves are mostly less than an inch long and are individually dried, as opposed to rolled. It is a very delicate flavor without the acidity of most of the world's black teas. It has a rich taste and descent caffeine content.

Drain and rinse rice and place in a small pot. Add filtered water and salt, and bring to a boil over high heat. Cover pot, reduce heat to low and simmer for an hour or until all the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and set aside covered for 10 minutes before removing lid and cooling.

Steam fava beans for 2 minutes or until tender, remove from steamer and slip out of their skins. Place in a salad bowl and set aside. Steam watermelon radishes 2 minutes or until tender, remove from steamer and spread over a plate to cool. Steam remaining vegetables separately, for 1 to 3 minutes or until tender. Spread them out to cool and then add to the salad bowl with fava beans. Add cooked black rice, parsley and chives. Drizzle with oil and a pinch of salt and toss to combine. Serve warm or room temperature.
