to Breathing Space (NZ)
Good afternoon I hope this email finds you well.

Both Liz and I at Breathing Space are finally back into the swing of
things now that our kids have returned to school, kindy and
playcentre.

Got to say we are finding it hard to let go of those lazy slow
mornings we had over holiday :D

We are really delighted to be sharing a few things with you this
month.

Breathing Space Workshops:

We can confirm that we will be presenting workshops every month in
Miramar this year. Places are limited so please book your place as
soon as you can. Each workshop is $75 - but don't forget you can still
use your 2 for 1 offer for those of you who attended the Diane Levy
Event. Email he...@breathingspacenz.com to make your reservation.

1pm-4pm, Sunday 28th February
*Being Present With Your Children*
You will come away from this workshop with clear examples of how you
can make the most of your time with your children and how parenting
can be even more enjoyable.

7pm-10pm, Wednesday 10th March
*Understanding Your Anger*
You will come away from this workshop more aware of what your
‘triggers’ for anger are. You will develop strategies on how to become
calmer within yourself and with your child/children

Both workshops will be running throughout the year - please check our
website for further dates www.breathingspacenz.com

Setting GOALS and Sticking to them:

With the start of a new year, Liz would like to share with you a
simple and easy exercise that addresses setting GOALS and sticking to
them.

The following exercise will enable you to get clear on what to focus
on.

1. Write down you GOALS on a separate pieces of paper (or at least
with enough space to write underneath each one).

2. Underneath each GOAL write the first thing that comes into your
mind. For example:

"Sticking to my Budget"
This may conjure up the following thoughts: 'hardship, doing without,
punishment'.
It could make you smile or you get the feeling of joy at knowing
you’ll be able to afford that new car, dress, holiday etc.

3. Reflect on each of these thoughts. Which ones make you feel
motivated? Which GOALS do you feel negative about?

4. For each GOAL where the focus is negative, think of how you might
switch it to a having a motivating focus instead. Then write it down -
crossing out the earlier thoughts.

5. To keep these GOALS alive use:
- VISUALISATION - imagine yourself driving your new car each morning
- WRITTEN or VISUAL reminders - list them in your diary or on your
fridge or on your mirror

You are more likely to achieve GOALS which have a motivating focus,
where you can see a positive outcome and when you think about them on
a daily basis.

This GOAL setting exercise can also be applied to motivate our
children to do things we want them to do. By presenting a positive
outcome, they are more likely to want to do what we want them to.

For example, if you want to leave the playground to go home, instead
of saying 'come on it's time to leave, we've been here for an hour,
it's time to go home'. We can say 'Come on, we are going home now for
some yummy afternoon tea and after that we can read some books
together' - or whatever their favourite thing to do is.

Same result i.e going home, just a different FOCUS.

I hope this exercise helps.
