Hi there!

I have two computers in the same network, both connected via gigabit ethernet.
One runs TuneAero, the other TuneBlade . Both are the most recent version at the time of writing.
I've been playing with real-time streaming mode, but it seems that the lowest I can get the latency to go is 140 ms.
Even using the custom streaming mode the latency will not go lower than 140 ms.

I found TuneBlade documentation regarding these streaming modes here.
It has a neat list regarding latencies with various applications, but not TuneAero!
In fact, the only thing mentioned regarding TuneAero is quite vague.

"TuneAero supports timing and synchronization, and is compatible with Streaming Modes."

It does not explain any limitations that might exist.

Either way, I just wanted to check if it is at all possible to get the latency lower than 140 milliseconds.
And if so, what obstacles might currently be preventing me from doing so.

Thanks, and have a good weekend!
Joey

Hi,

Thank you for your interest, and writing to us.

The 140 ms value of TuneAero's minimum buffer is a chosen optimum value that we believe will work on most environments.

We'll check and get back to you in a day or so, on how to override this value manually in TuneAero.

Thanks,
The TuneAero Team

Hi there,

Do you have any updates on this matter? I'm still looking forward to receiving the mentioned information.

Thanks again,
Joey

Hi Joey,

Our sincere apologies for the delay in responding, as there was no way in the current version to manually override the minimum buffer value. We've created a new build where this is possible now :

Steps:

1) Install the above mentioned version.

2) Run TuneAero and close it.

3) Go to %localappdata%/TuneAero folder.

4) You'll see one or more folders with random names in this directory. In one of the directories, there will be a folder with the version number of this new build, 1.0.11.0. Open this folder

5) Edit the user.config file in any text editor. Search for property "MinBufferSamples" in this file. The corresponding value can be changed to a minimum of 250 (5 ms) and maximum of 44100 (1 sec). You can change it to 250 which corresponds to 5 milliseconds. Save and Close this file.

6) You can now run TuneAero with minimum AirPlay latency of 5 ms streaming from TuneBlade, although depending on your network, the playback might be jittery. You can use the Custom Streaming Mode on TuneBlade to try other higher values.

Note: While editing the file, make sure TuneAero is closed. Changing the layout or editing anything else in this file might cause TuneAero to reset all settings.

Please let us know how this goes.

Thanks,
The TuneAero Team
