I'm trying to measure the distance between two objects in the free viewer. I follow the procedure below which is directly from the help file. Everything works except the dialog box never displays, so of course I can never see the distance because that's where it's displayed.

I've also looked at tutorials on YouTube and I can follow them and understand what they're saying but again in the tutorial the dialog box comes up just fine but it never does for me. Anything simple that I'm missing? I use cadence allegro viewer to troubleshoot and repair PCBs.

I am using the Allegro Free Physical Viewer(17.4-2019 S019 [7/14/2021] Windows SPB 64-bit Edition) and after searching endlessly online can't see to find anything about how to flip or mirror a PCB in the free viewer?

Ya, very limited when it comes to rotating inside the viewer. What you need to do is inside the viewer do an export to pdf. Once you have generated a pdf of your design open it and spin it the way you like. Just like the old viewer. I have no clue as to why they did not put in a spin inside the new 3D. Maybe later I hope.

GC-Preview is a powerful free Gerber viewer created by GraphiCode. GC-Prevue reads all common CAD generated electronic manufacturing outputs including Gerber, Barco DPF, Excellon, Sieb and Meyer, HPGL and HPGL2.

I'm running Allegro 16.3 Performance L. I recently upgraded my Allegro viewer from 16.2 to 16.5. When I open designs using the viewer, I see shapes filled with a pattern of small dots rather than solid filled.

When I try to use the show measurement tool in APD+ free physical viewer in Win10, the show measurement window does not open. I am able to get the show element window to open but no luck with the show measurement window. I tried deleting the .geo file in my pcbenv directory but no luck. Any suggestions??

Suspecting these could be OrCad Capture files, I then tried the free OrCad ViewReader which turned out to be a translater rather than a viewer. The latest attempt was to download an OrCad 16.6 Demo Software and see if that's any good but apparently it takes time.

*.dsn could be either an OrCAD Capture schematic design or an Allegro Specctra Router design file (also *.dsn). More that likely it will be the first. The netlist files pstchip.dat, pstxnet.dat and pstxprt.dat can all be opened with a text editor. If you also have *.brd then this is the actual board file that you can open with the free viewer or the demo software.

So it looks like, simply, Kicad does not support drill files from allegro.
I thought NC drill and excellon are the same but they are apparently not.
Anyway, thanks for help! I really appreciate.

How do you rotate the view using the mouse in 3D viewer? I just watched a youtube video where the instructor was showing how to map a step file to a footprint and he was spinning the image all around. I am not able to spin the image using my mouse, I can only select fixed images, top, bottom, side, etc.....

I need to display filled pads using allegro viewer 16.5. This was simple in 15.7, pull-down menus dot me there quickly. But 16.5 I have spent a great deal of time looking for this and have not found it yet.

Before this installation, I have once successfully install it. But I don't know how to open it, so I decide to delete everything and run the PCBviewer.exe again as I thought there is something missing.

Hi, I downloaded the allegro_free_viewer.exe version 17.4, but I can't seem to accurately measure between pads, vias, etc. It seems people have seen able do better measurements on the classic version, as well as the 17.2 version. How can I get the download for either of these? Thank you

When executing the 3D command in Allegro PCB Designer 16.6, the top components are placed correctly with the smt leads flush on the top conductor surface. However, if I rotate the design from within the viewer to look at the bottom side, the bottom component smt leads are buried in the board and are not sitting flush on the bottom conductor surface. It is almost as if the board thickness is being taken into consideration.

Am I missing a setting?

But, when i have loaded my skill file in "allegro.ilinit", I still can call these functions under "Command>" of physical viewer if my functions were registered to command by axlCmdRegister().

Hi Dave. I am trying to load a skill file ( with .il extension) but it doesnt work. I have updated the menu file and my sccript name is showinf there. But my question is how do I use the allegro.ilinit file?

OrCAD is a proprietary software tool suite used primarily for Electronic Design Automation (EDA) developed by Cadence Design Systems, Inc. The name OrCAD is a portmanteau, reflection of the software's origin and the company's focus: Oregon (Oregon, United States) + CAD (Computer-Aided Design). OrCAD is part of the Allegro platform.

In addition to this knowledge article, please review this documentation:
-designer/allegro-import

Altium Designer supports the import of Allegro's native binary (*.brd) and ASCII (*.alg) files from Allegro (up to version 17.2). To import the files, Altium Designer ultimately needs the ASCII versions. Binary versions need to go through a conversion process that requires a local installation of extracta.exe that is installed as part of Allegro to convert the *.brd file to the Allegro ASCII *.alg file that Altium needs for the import. As this utility is part of the Allegro tools, Altium is unable to redistribute this file, or the DLLs required to run it. Therefore, the conversion requires a machine with Allegro installed. If that is not available, you can inquire with one of our service bureau members. Here's a link:

Try using Allegro as a search word to reduce the list size, then double check that Services provided includes Allegro.

Option 1:
If both programs are installed and licensed on the same machine,
then Altium Designer can automatically use Allegro's utilities to convert the *.brd file into *.alg, and then into an Altium Designer file. You will still need to configure the Path System Environment Variable as described below (just after the next screen shot.)

Note that extracta.exe is tied to a valid Allegro license so when it expires you will no longer be able to import the *.brd file. Altium can import the Allegro ASCII *.alg file without having an installation of Allegro on your machine.

Allegro is installed in the C drive as shown in below:
